Inspired by the 1951 Academy Award winning film starring Gene Kelly acclaimed director/choreographer and 2015 Tony Award® winner Christopher Wheeldon brings the magic and romance of Paris into perfect harmony with unforgettable songs from George and Ira Gershwin.

Featuring classic songs I Got Rhythm, S Wonderful, But Not For Me and They Can’t Take That Away From Me, An American in Paris earned more Tony Awards than any other musical in the 2014-15 season!

American Ashley Day and British Royal Ballet soloist Leanne Cope lead a company of over 50 actors, dancers and musicians.

An American in Paris will run from 4 March 2017 until 6 January 2018 at the Dominion Theatre, London.

STORY

Jerry Mulligan is an American GI striving to make it as a painter in a city suddenly bursting with hope and possibility. Following a chance encounter with a beautiful young dancer named Lise, the streets of Paris become the backdrop to a sensuous, modern romance of art, friendship and love in the aftermath of war…

The cast is lead by Ashley Day (Jerry Mulligan) and Leanne Cope (Lise Dassin) alongside Haydn Oakley (Henri Baurel), Zoë Rainey (Milo Davenport), David Seadon-Young (Adam Hochberg) and Julie Legrand (Madame Baurel).

CREATIVE TEAM

An American in Paris features a book by Craig Lucas with music by George Gershwin and lyrics by Ira Gershwin. The musical score is adapted, arranged and supervised by Rob Fisher. Christopher Wheeldon directs and choreographs with set and costume design by Bob Crowley, lighting by Natasha Katz and sound design by Jon Weston

Full casting has been announced for Christopher Wheeldon's West End production of An American In Paris. Joining the previously announced Robert Fairchild (as Jerry Mulligan) and Leanne Cope (as Lise Dassin) will be Haydn Oakley (Sunset Boulevard, The Book of Mormon) as Henri Baurel, Zoë Rainey (The Winter's Tale, Wicked) as Milo Davenport, David Seadon-Young (Ghost) as Adam Hochberg, and Jane Asher (Alfie, Blithe Spirit) as Madame Baurel. Ashley Day will be the alternate Jerry Mulligan and will assume the role from 19 June 2017. Based on the Academy Award-winning film starring Gene Kelly, the musical is set in Paris and tells the story of Jerry Mulligan, an American GI trying to make it as a painter in post-war Paris.
