The West End may get a little weirder with the UK premiere of Beetlejuice, the funniest new musical this side of the other side.

It’s showtime, folks! Beetlejuice is ruder, raunchier and frankly, more repellent than ever in this original musical based on Tim Burton’s wonderfully demented film.

Beetlejuice The Musical is rumoured to be opening in London’s West End in 2024, although no details have yet been revealed in terms of dates, venue or casting.

News about Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice to play Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in 2025
Michael Cassel Group (& Juliet, Mary Poppins) and Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures have announced that hit Broadway musical Beetlejuice is coming to Melbourne Australia. The show will play a limited season in Melbourne at the Regent Theatre from April 2025. The eight-time Tony Award-nominated musical has a score by Australian composer Eddie Perfect, and is based on Tim Burton’s much-loved movie. The show also has a book by Scott Brown and Emmy Award nominee Anthony King (Broad City), and orchestrations and incidental music by Kris Kukul. Beetlejuice tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” Lucky for Lydia, her new house is haunted by a recently deceased couple and a degenerate demon with a thing for stripes. When Lydia calls on this ghost-with-the-most to scare away her insufferable parents, Beetlejuice comes up with the perfect plan, that leads audiences into a (nether)world of pandemonium. Beetlejuice closed on Broadway in January this year, having played 679 performances, directed by Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge! The Musical). The show has also been long rumoured to be coming to London's West End, but there's still no news on dates or venue. Hopefully the announcement of an Australian run for the show means London is closer than ever. Michael Cassel, the Australian producer of the show, said in a press statement: “This wickedly funny show is at the top of so many Aussie music theatre fans’ wish list to play here and we are delighted to bring it to its natural home – the Regent Theatre – where audiences will be transported to the netherworld for a night they will never forget. The fan support for Beetlejuice resonated around the world and we can’t wait to see how fans respond to it here.” More about Beetlejuice The Musical
Beetlejuice The Musical in London – What we know so far
Broadway’s smash-hit production of Beetlejuice The Musical is rumoured to be heading to London’s West End - but with producers remaining tight lipped on the London run here’s what we know so far. What is Beetlejuice The Musical about? Based on Tim Burton’s 1988 wonderfully demented film, Beetlejuice The Musical follows Lydia Deetz -  a strange and unusual teenager whose life takes an unexpected turn when she meets the former owners of her house - who just happen to be dead - and a degenerate demon from the Netherworld.  When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away her insufferable parents, he comes up with the perfect plan that involves exorcism, arranged marriages and an adorable girl scout who gets scared out of her wits.  Under its uproarious surface, this hilarious musical comedy is a remarkably touching show about family, love, and making the most of every day. When will Beetlejuice The Musical open in London? No official announcement has been made by producers, however rumour suggests Beetlejuice The Musical may open in London in 2024. The show had been tipped to open in London in 2022, however covid has delayed numerous Broadway to West End transfers. What theatre will Beetlejuice The Musical play in London? With no official announcement on the run it’s impossible to confirm where Beetlejuice The Musical will land. Any new show always sees the closure of the one and demand for London theatre's is currently at a premium. It would be great at one of the larger theatre venues like the Dominion Theatre (2069 seats), the Prince Edward Theatre (1622 seats) or the Adelphi Theatre (1500), however it would probably land at one of the smaller venues like the Shaftesbury Theatre (1305 seats), Phoenix Theatre (1012), Gillian Lynne Theatre (1102), Savoy Theatre (1158) or even the Garrick Theatre (700 seats). Can I book ticket to Beetlejuice The Musical in London? Not yet. No official on sale date for Beetlejuice The Musical tickets has been announced, but you can be sure we will let you know as soon as they do. What is the age restriction for Beetlejuice The Musical in London? We don't know what the age guidance for the UK production is yet, but for the Broadway production the advice was: Recommended for ages 10 and up. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted. Who are the creative team behind Beetlejuice The Musical? Beetlejuice has a Book by Scott Brown and Emmy Award nominee Anthony King (Broad City), Music and Lyrics by Eddie Perfect, and Musical Direction, Orchestration and Incidental music by Kris Kukul. The show is directed by Tony Award and Olivier Award nominee Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Peter and the Starcatcher), with choreography by Connor Gallagher (The Robber Bridegroom); Set design by David Korins; Costume design by William Ivey Long; Lighting design by Kenneth Posner; Sound design by Peter Hylenski; Projection design by Peter Nigrini; and, Puppet design by Michael Curry. The show is based on the Geffen Company Picture distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures., with a story by Michael McDowell and Larry Wilson; and directed by Tim Burton. It's unlikely the full Broadway creative team will travel with the show when it comes to London, but you can expect Alex Timbers and Connor Gallagher to be onboard. Who is in the London cast of Beetlejuice The Musical? No news or rumours on Beetlejuice casting just yet. The Broadway production, which closed in January 2023, starred Alex Brightman in the title role of Beetlejuice. His many Broadway credits include School of Rock The Musical, Big Fish, Matilda The Musical and Wicked. Is Beetlejuice The Musical playing on Broadway? Not any more. The show returned to Broadway on 7 April 2022, playing at the Marquis Theatre, but closed in January 2023 after 679 performances. The show originally premiered at the Winter Garden Theatre on 25 April 2019, following 27 preview performances, but closed on 10 March 2022 following 366 performances. Its early closure was due to the Broadway shutting down because of the covid pandemic. Can I watch Beetlejuice The Musical online? Not yet. But we think its coming.  It was rumoured one of the reasons the show was brought back to Broadway was so it could be filmed for release on one of the streamers and a potential theatrical release.

  1. guess it not happening this years as we now entering summer and still no news if it was coming this year we would know by now theatre would have been chosen and cast selected and rehearsals would have happened

  2. Hiya I’m just wondering wether there’s any shows coming up this year as I’ve been DYING to watch this for ages!!?

    Thanks, Ellis

  3. Melvyn Maunder

Really hope this happens. Saw it on Broadway last month and it’s a spectacular show. I don’t know who could fill Alex Brightmans shoes though

  4. My 11 year old is desperate to see this musical. Question, would it be suitable for her not very scaredy cat 7 year old sister?

    1. Hi Lisa
We don’t know for sure for the UK production yet, but for the Broadway production the advice is:
Recommended for ages 10 and up. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted.

    2. Hi 🙂

This is everything in BEETLEJUICE you should be aware of:

      Suicide references
Talk about death a lot (in a both comedic and serious sence)
Sex references (not very obvious quite sutble )
      Swearing
      Drug references

It may sound quite a lot but trust me it is amazing. Most references will fly by a 7 yr olds head and your 11 year old should be fine too, though be aware that they will probably understand some references

    3. I would say that I would be suitable for a 11 year old as i am taking my 11 year old to se it if u take a 7 year old be mindful of flashing light some sexual scenes and older language if your ok with this I don’t see why not boy also be careful if someone try’s to stop her from coming in I would lie abot he age and say she is 10 nearly 11

  5. When exactly in 2022 is beetlejuice opening? It’s my daughter’s 18th in March but I think it may be later as surely we could buy tickets by now?

  6. I hope it does open, it deserved better. My favourite musical only a few hours away! I’m gonna reinforce this, BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE!

  7. Name (required)Denise

Omg my granddaughter and I can’t wait to see this show in London. Very Desperate to book tickets 😂
