This dazzling, brand-new reimagined production tells the story of an aspiring writer who lands a job working for a magazine editor from hell.

Hilariously fun and fabulously stylish, The Devil Wears Prada is about discovering what kind of person you truly want to be.

A thinly veiled riff on Vogue powerhouse Anna Wintour, portrayed magnificently on screen by Meryl Streep, The Devil Wears Prada is a joyous, funny, and — of course — ultra-glamorous story about navigating life’s runway to discover where you’re meant to be.

The Devil Wears Prada is brought to life on stage by a powerhouse creative team, including score by Oscar, Tony Golden Globe and Grammy Award winner Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub, and book by Kate Wetherhead, based on the best-selling novel by Lauren Weisberger and the movie.

The director of the forthcoming London production of the show is award-winning Broadway and West End director Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Pretty Woman, Kinky Boots).

News about The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada The Musical to play the West End’s Dominion Theatre in 2024
A brand new musical based on the hit movie The Devil Wears Prada is coming to London's West End. The new show, which has music by Elton John, is set to open at the Dominion Theatre in London in October 2024. As rumoured back in February, multi-Tony Award winning Broadway and West End director Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Pretty Woman, Kinky Boots) is set to direct and choreograph the West End version of The Devil Wears Prada, following last year's Chicago pre-Broadway try-out for the show. The Chicago production, directed by directed by Anna D. Shapiro, didn't get great reviews, but has been substantially reworked since, ready for a West End opening - and the London show will be a brand-new, reimagined production. The Devil Wears Prada has music by Oscar winner Elton John (Disney's The Lion King), lyrics by singer-songwriter Shaina Taub, and a book by Kate Wetherhead (Submissions Only). The much-loved 2006 movie was directed by David Frankel with a screenplay by Aline Brosh McKenna, based on Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel. The Devil Wears Prada movie famously starred Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, a titan of the fashion industry and editor in chief of fashion magazine Runway, with Anne Hathaway as Andrea "Andy" Sachs, a graduate who goes to New York City and lands a job as Priestly's co-assistant, plus Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci in star turns as co-assistant Emily Charlton and art director Nigel Kipling. The UK creative team also includes set design is by Tim Hatley, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Bruno Poet, sound design by Gareth Owen, and casting by Jill Green CDG. The Chicago run of the show starred Beth Leavel as Miranda Priestly and Taylor Iman Jones as Andy Sachs. Casting for the London production has not yet been announced. Jerry Mitchell continues to direct a range of shows in the US and UK, with recent work including the world premiere of BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical, coming to Chicago in November 2023. Jerry Mitchell is currently in London ahead of the Devil Wears Prada announcement, where he saw a performance of The Little Big Things at the @sohoplace theatre. He said of the show on Instagram that "Sometimes Theater Can Change everything! THIS is one of those times!". His rave review follows that of Andrew Lloyd Webber, who described the show as "a total triumph". The Devil Wears Prada is getting an out-of-town try-out before heading to the Dominion Theatre, with an exclusive preview run at the Theatre Royal Plymouth from 9 July 2024. The show is produced by Tony Award winner Kevin McCollum/ Alchemation (In the Heights, Avenue Q, Rent, SIX and Mrs. Doubtfire), Rocket Entertainment / David Furnish (Tammy Faye, Billy Elliot: The Musical), and Jamie Wilson (Mrs Doubtfire, Sister Act The Musical, Ain’t Too Proud) and presented by special arrangement with Buena Vista Theatrical. Currently playing at the Dominion Theatre is Grease The Musical, which ends on 28 October 2023. Next up at the Nederlander venue is Elf The Musical, from 15 November 2023 to 6 January 2024; and then The King & I breaks its UK tour at the Dominion for a 20 January to 2 March 2024 run. Finally Sister Act The Musical lands at the theatre from 15 March to 31 August 2024, running at the same time as the Sister Act UK Tour. The Devil Wears Prada will run from 24 October 2024 at the Dominion Theatre in London. There will also be a special Gala Performance on Sunday 1 December 2024 in support of World Aids Day and the Elton John Aids Foundation. More about The Devil Wears Prada The Musical tickets in London
Stage Spy: Is The Devil Wears Prada musical coming to London directed by Jerry Mitchell?
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that award-winning Broadway director Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Pretty Woman, Kinky Boots) is lined up to direct the West End production of new musical The Devil Wears Prada. This follows last year's Chicago pre-Broadway try-out for the show, which was directed by Anna D. Shapiro - former artistic director of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theater. That production didn't get great reviews, and the general consensus was it needed lots of work before Broadway. The Devil Wears Prada has amazing credentials - including music by Oscar winner Elton John, lyrics by singer-songwriter Shaina Taub, and a book by Kate Wetherhead. The Chicago try-out had music supervision by Nadia DiGiallonardo, choreography by James Alsop, costume design by Arianne Phillips, scenic and media design by Christine Jones and Brett Banakis, lighting design by Paule Constable, sound design by Nevin Steinberg, and orchestrations by Giles Martin. Whilst the deal with Mitchell is said to be "not yet done" we assume it is looking likely. Which would be amazing to get The Devil Wears Prada The Musical to London. Other Jerry Mitchell news today is that he is set to direct the world premiere of BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical in Chicago. The new show will play 6 weeks from 19 November to 31 December 2023 at the CIBC Theatre in Chicago. This new show about the Queen of the Animated Screen boasts music by multiple Grammy Award-winning composer David Foster (“I Have Nothing,” “After The Love Is Gone,” “The Prayer”), lyrics by Tony Award-nominated lyricist Susan Birkenhead (Working, Jelly’s Last Jam), and a book by Tony Award-winning writer Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone, The Prom). Director Jerry Mitchell said in a press statement: “Creating a NEW Broadway musical is such a gift. It is a special joy to be working on BOOP! in Chicago, so close to my hometown, at the very theatre where I first fell in LOVE with musicals when I saw A CHORUS LINE there back in 1978. David Foster and Susan Birkenhead have created a first-class score to frame Bob Martin’s touching tale about an ICON, Betty Boop and her indomitable spirit in this Jazz Hot love story. BOOP! is for everybody. I promise the entire family will be singing and dancing as they walk up the aisle. BOOP! is a musical for our time."
