The Olivier Awards 2025 took place on Sunday 6 April 2025. Here’s everything you need to know about the UK’s most important and prestigious theatre awards.
Organised by the Society of London Theatre, the awards cover all major acting and creative disciplines. Established in 1976, and named in honour of great British actor Laurence Olivier, the Olivier Awards celebrate the world-class status of London’s West End theatre.
This year’s star-studded evening celebrates 40 years of the prestigious awards bearing the name of actor and director Sir Laurence Olivier.

What date are the Olivier Awards 2025 winners announced?
The awards took place on Sunday, 6 April 2025, once again at the beautiful Royal Albert Hall in London. The date of this year’s Olivier Awards was originally announced back in July.
Who are the winners of the 2025 Olivier Awards?

This year’s Industry Recognition Awards have also been announced. To qualify for the awards, recipients have to demonstrate that they have achieved excellence in their field of work, have gone above and beyond in terms of dedication to their role and the industry, or have achieved pioneering and leading change.
The 2025 winners of the Industry Recognition Awards are: West End theatre operations manager Rupert Bielby; theatre lighting specialist Bryan Raven; and Cameron Mackintosh’s former marketing and ticketing director Sue Uings.
Also a Special Olivier Award was given to Rufus Norris, outgoing artistic director of the National Theatre in London. Rufus Norris is receiving the Special Award for services to the theatre industry.

Who is nominated for an Olivier Awards 2025?
The 2025 Olivier Awards nominations were announced on 4 March 2025 by Olivier Award winners Nicole Scherzinger and Tom Francis, stars of Sunset Boulevard.
Big hitters at the nominations included Fiddler On The Roof, which scored the most nominations with 13 in total, alongside new dramas Giant and The Years which tied for most nominated play with 5 nominations each.
Nominees for Best Actress are Heather Agyepong, Lesley Manville, Rosie Sheehy, Meera Syal and Indira Varma; and Best Actor nods go to Adrien Brody, Billy Crudup, Paapa Essiedu, John Lithgow and Mark Strong.

Olivier Awards 2024
Who hosted the Olivier Awards 2025?
This year’s 2025 awards was hosted by West End and Broadway stars Billy Porter and Beverley Knight.
Billy Porter (Pose) is currently starring in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club in London; and Olivier Award-winner Beverley Knight will be starring in new show Marie and Rosetta at the Rose Theatre in Kingston and Chichester Festival Theatre this spring.
For the last two years of Awards, Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) has been on hosting duties.
Can I watch and listen to the Olivier Awards 2025 at home?
Yes, ITV1 is broadcasting the awards in the UK on the evening of Sunday 6 April, following the ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall.
The UK highlights of the awards will once again be broadcast on ITV1 and STV1 at 10.15pm on Sunday 6 April. Following the broadcast, the highlights will be available on catch-up on ITVX, on the night of the awards.
There will also be highlights coverage of the awards on Magic Radio from 8pm (awards ceremony from 9pm) on Sunday; and TikTok will also return to provide Green Carpet coverage as their official mobile entertainment platform.

What shows and stars performed at the 2025 Olivier Awards?
Every year there are performances from all of the Best New Musical and Best Musical Revival nominees.
So this year there were performances from The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, MJ The Musical, Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet Of 1812, and Why Am I So Single?, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver! and Starlight Express.
Other performances included hosts Billy Porter and Beverley Knight opening the show with a big musical number.
Also, Cameron Mackintosh’s hit West End show Les Misérables gave a special, star-studded performance at the awards, to celebrate the show’s 40th anniversary in London. Performers included Lucie Jones, Shan Ako, Nathania Ong, Rachelle Ann Go, and Bradley Jaden. The special performance saw the stars sing “On My Own”, “I Dreamed A Dream”, and “Stars”.

A galaxy of stage and screen stars presented awards to winners at the Olivier Awards.
Presenters of this year’s Olivier Awards included Hayley Atwell and Tom Hiddleston, who were both appearing in Much Ado About Nothing at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane; Cate Blanchett and Tom Burke who recently appeared in The Seagull at the Barbican Theatre; Ewan McGregor and Elizabeth Debicki, who are starring in My Master Builder at the Wyndham’s Theatre; Jane Krakowski and Jesse Tyler Ferguson starring in Here We Are at the National Theatre; Corbin Bleu, who is set to appear in The Great Gatsby at London Coliseum; Chris O’Dowd, star of The Brightening Air at The Old Vic; Martin Freeman who is about to star in The Fifth Step at @sohoplace; Celia Imrie, currently appearing in Backstroke at the Donmar Warehouse; Samantha Barks, fresh from her Masked Singer success and forthcoming concert at the London Palladium; 2023 Olivier Award nominee Rose Ayling-Ellis; Marianne Elliot, who is directing Nicola Walker in The Unbelievers at the Royal Court Theatre; plus Naomi Campbell, Idris Elba, Shobana Jeyasingh, Elaine Paige, Harriet Scott, Gok Wan, Bryn Terfel and Jacqueline Wilson.

Where were the 2025 Olivier Awards ceremony held?
As in previous years, the Olivier Awards were announced at a glitzy ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
In past years the Olivier Awards have been held in a variety of London and West End venues, including the Royal Opera House, the Dominion Theatre, London Palladium, Lyceum Theatre, National Theatre, Piccadilly Theatre, Shaftesbury Theatre, Theatre Royal Drury Lane and Victoria Palace Theatre.
Who directed and choreographed this year’s Olivier Awards 2025?
This year’s creative team for the Olivier Awards saw the return of Anthony Van Laast (Mamma Mia!) as Creative Show Director, with conductor and arranger Gareth Valentine (Wicked, Cats, Miss Saigon), orchestrator Mark Cumberland, and lighting designer Ben Cracknell.
What are the Olivier Awards categories?
The main Olivier Awards categories are Best New Play, Best New Musical, and the Best Actor and Actress categories for both plays and musicals. But there are also lots of other key award categories.

What shows are eligible for a 2025 Olivier Award?
That’s a good question, and the answer is – a lot of shows! This year’s awards are selecting shows that opened between 28 February 2024 to 14 February 2025. The show has to have played in a theatre represented in membership of Society of London Theatre to be considered eligible, but that basically covers most West End theatres.
What theatres in London are eligible for 2025 Olivier Awards?
To be eligible to receive an Olivier Award, a show must be playing in one of the Society of London Theatre’s (SOLT’s) member theatres. There are also Affiliate members of SOLT can also put their shows forward, but only if they have opted to pay the Performance Levy to allow all their productions (in their main space) to be eligible for the main category Olivier Awards.
