Broadway’s Electrifying new musical heads to London

Nominated for 10 Tony Awards, Michael Jackson’s unique and unparalleled artistry is brought to life on stage in London in a brand-new show, MJ The Musical.

Created by Tony Award-winning Director/Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon (An American in Paris, After The Rain) and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Ruined, Sweat), with music by Michael Jackson, this smash-hit Broadway transfer is opening at the Prince Edward Theatre in London in Spring 2024.

Centred around one moment in time, as Jackson prepares for his accalimed 1992 Dangerous World Tour, MJ features over 25 Michael Jackson hits including Beat It, I’ll Be There, Don’t Stop ’till You Get Enough, Earth Song, Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, Thriller, Man in the Mirror and Black of White.

MJ The Musical will open at the Prince Edward Theatre on 6 March 2024. Tickets on sale 24 May 2023.

Scenic Design is by Tony Award and two-time Emmy Award winner Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge! The Musical), Lighting Design by six-time Tony Award-winner Natasha Katz (Once), Costume Design by Tony Award and Emmy Award winner Paul Tazewell (Hamilton), Sound Design by Tony Award and Olivier Award winning Gareth Owen (Come From Away), Projection Design by two- time Tony Award nominee Peter Nigrini (Dear Evan Hansen), and Hair & Wig Design by two-time Emmy Award nominee Charles LaPointe (The Color Purple). West End production of MJ The Musical begins search for Michael Jackson
An open casting call for the West End production of MJ The Musical has been announced. Open auditions for the lead role in MJ The Musical will be held on Saturday 18 March in Manchester, Sunday 19 March in Birmingham and Sunday 26 March in London. Registration for all venues opens at 10am and closes at 12-noon. Casting agents are looking for exceptional male singers - high tenors with falsetto - with strong acting and dancing skills to portray or cover the lead role of Michael Jackson. Attendees are asked to prepare a Michael Jackson song or pop song that shows off their voice and range. They are required to bring sheet music, a photo and cv. Currently at the Prince Edward Theatre is Mary Poppins, which runs until 8 January 2022. Michael Jackson musical MJ wins four Tony Awards
MJ, the new Michael Jackson musical picked up four Tony Awards at the 75th Annual Tony Awards held in New York City on 12 June 2022. Created by Tony Award-winning Director/Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon (An American in Paris, After The Rain) and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Ruined, Sweat), with music by Michael Jackson, the show was one of the favourite at this year's Tony awards with a total of ten nominations. Wheeldon won best choreography adding a second Tony to his mantle following his 2015 Best Choreographer win for An American in Paris. Myles Frost won the award for Best Musical Actor for his role in ‘MJ’. The 22-year-old embodies the music legend Michael Jackson in the Broadway hit. The newcomer beat out two veterans of the theatre and film scene: Hugh Jackman (nominated for ‘The Music Man’) and Billy Crystal (nominated for ‘Mr. Saturday Night’), who also entered the race as Best Male Musical Actor. The show also won in the musical categories ‘Best Sound Design’, ‘Best Choreography’ and ‘Best Lighting Design’. The show has been a huge hit with theatre-goers with the show regularly averaging a millions dollars a week on Broadway. A West End transfer for MJ is rumoured to open in London in 2023. MJ is currently playing at the Neil Simon Theatre until 30 December 2022.
