David Tennant

David Tennant – best known for his screen performances including Doctor Who, Broadchurch and more recently Deadwater Fell and  Good Omens – will star in the West End revival of CP Taylor’s classic drama Good.

Directed by Dominic Cooke, this powerful political classic shows how a decent, intelligent person can be swept along in a movement that crescendos towards an unthinkable finale. A fitting warning for our current times.  With many stage credits to his name including Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet and Richard II, David was last on stage in Don Juan in Soho at the Wyndham’s Theatre.

Good will run from 21 April 2021 until 17 July 2021 at the Harold Pinter Theatre, London.

Emilia Clarke, The Seagull

Emilia Clarke will make her West End stage debut in a new adaptation of Anton Checkov’s The Seagull, directed by Jamie Lloyd.  Best known for playing Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO fantasy television series Game of Thrones Emilia will play Nina in this unique modernisation of Checkhov’s tale of love, loneliness and fame in the 21st century. The production had just begun previews at the Playhouse Theatre in London when it was forced to closed due to covid-19. The show is due to resume performances in 2021 with rescheduled dates to be announced.

Jessica Chastain, A Dolls House

Jessica Chastain (Molly’s Game, Miss Sloane, The Help) also makes her London stage debut in 2021, playing Nora in Frank McGuinness’ ‘triumphant and thrilling’ (The New Yorker) adaptation of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House. This radical new production is directed Jamie Lloyd and is the final production in his season at the Playhouse Theatre.  A Doll’s House was due to open in 2020 but like so many shows it’s run has been delayed due to covid-19. Rescheduled dates for the 2021 run to be announced.

Timothée Chalamet and Eileen Atkins

Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Little Women) and Dame Eileen Atkins (The Crown; The Height of the Storm, West End/Broadway) star in Amy Herzog’s Pulitzer Prize for Drama nominated play 4000 Miles at the Old Vic Theatre.  Directed by Matthew Warchus, the play about a 91-year-old grandmother and her grandson examines the importance of love and the healing power that trust can bring. The piece will see Chalamet make his London stage debut.

4000 Miles at the Old Vic Theatre, London, is currently being rescheduled for 2021. Dates to be announced.

National Treasure and comic icon Jennifer Saunders returns to the stage in the London revival of Sister Act The Musical.  Best known for French and Saunders, Jam in Jerusalem and Absolutely Fabulous, Jennifer Saunders has taken to the stage in the last few years with acclaimed performances in Blithe Spirit at the Duke of York’s in 2020 and Lady Windermere’s Fan at the Vaudeville Theatre in 2019.

Jennifer will play Mother Superior alongside Whoopi Goldberg as Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act at the Eventim Apollo. She will also appear in a one-off special An Evening with Jennifer Saunders at the Lyric Theatre in London on 18 January 2021.  Here she will sit down with actor David O’Reilly to talk about her extraordinary career spanning four decades.

Whoopi Goldberg returns to the bright lights of London’s theatre-land in the iconic role of Deloris Van Cartier. Nominated for 13 Emmy Awards she is one of the few entertainers to have won an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, an Academy Award, and a Tony Award. Rarely seen on stage, this will be the first time she reprises the role of Deloris since the classic blockbuster films.

The Notting Hill actor’s extensive theatre credits include King Lear (The Old Vic), Protest Song, Volpone and Under Milk Wood (National Theatre), Don Juan in Soho, Accidental Death of an Anarchist and Bad Finger (Donmar Warehouse) and Beautiful Thing (Duke of York Theatre). Sorkin’s adaptation, directed by Bartlett Sher arrives at the Gielgud Theatre in May as the most successful play in Broadway theatre history.
