In a historic first for the London Palladium, producers of the forthcoming revival of Jesus Christ Superstar have announced that audiences will be invited onto the stage!

Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals confirmed today that the production will offer exclusive on-stage standing tickets for every performance. The move marks the first time the legendary venue has allowed audiences to stand “at the heart of the action,” placing fans directly inside the energy of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s rock musical.

Jesus Christ Superstar is playing at the London Palladium from 20 June to 5 September 2026.

Director Tim Sheader, who originally helmed the Olivier Award-winning production of Jesus Christ Superstar at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre a decade ago, said of the new staging: “This isn’t just watching a story unfold; it’s being inside it. You’ll feel the heat of the lights, the pulse of the orchestra, and the energy of the performers.”

A star-studded company

The production features a massive ensemble led by Eurovision star Sam Ryder in his theatrical debut as Jesus. He is joined by Tyrone Huntley (Hello, Dolly!), reprising his Olivier-nominated turn as Judas, Desmonda Cathabel (Hadestown) as Mary Magdalene, and Olivier Award winner David Thaxton (Sunset Boulevard) as Pontius Pilate.

The role of King Herod will be shared by a rotating “Superstar” roster throughout the 11-week run: Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Olivier and Tony Award-winner Simon Russell Beale (The Choral), Richard Armitage (The Hobbit trilogy), pop icon Boy George (Moulin Rouge!), Olivier Award winner and Tony nominee Layton Williams (Titanique), and comedian and actor Julian Clary (Palladium Panto).

The principal cast also includes Bob Harms (Pretty Woman) as Caiaphas; Matty J (Britain’s Got Talent) as Annas; Billy Nevers (Hamilton) as Simon/Alternate Judas (performing Judas on Wednesdays from 8 July); and Phil King (Jane Eyre) as Peter.

The creative vision

The original 2016 creative team is reuniting for this limited engagement, including choreographer Drew McOnie (CATS) and 2026 Olivier Award-winning designer Tom Scutt (Cabaret, Sunday in the Park with George).

The production follows the incredible success of Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals’ recent hits, including the Olivier-winning Evita – which is set for Broadway in 2027, and Sunset Blvd.
