Acclaimed West End musical Hadestown has announced a new cast for 2025.

The cast of the show’s second year will start their run at the Lyric Theatre in London from 11 March 2025.

Hadestown will star Desmonda Cathabel (Disney’s Aladdin, Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream) as Eurydice; Olivier Award-nominee Victoria Hamilton-Barritt (Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella) as Persephone; Chris Jarman (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) as Hades; Olivier Award-nominee Cedric Neal (Guys & Dolls, Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812) as Hermes; and Dylan Wood (No Love Songs) returns as Orpheus.

Other casting includes Melanie Bright and Lauran Rae joining Allie Daniel as the Fates; Femi Akinfolarin, Michelle Andrews, Ollie Bingham, Laura Delany and Sebastian Lim-Seet as the Workers; and Lucinda Buckley, Juan Jackson, Oisín Nolan-Power, Lindo Shinda and Jasmine Triadi as Swings.

The show announced last week that it will film three performances of the musical from 28 February to 1 March 2025, to produce a new Hadestown Live in London film.

The principal cast of the new Hadestown film will be the original National Theatre and Broadway leads, who are coming back to London for the production from 11 February to 9 March 2025, including Reeve Carney as Orpheus, André De Shields as Hermes, Amber Gray as Persephone, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice and Patrick Page as Hades.

The current London cast of the show, who finish on 9 February 2025, include West End stars Rachel Tucker (Wicked, Sunset Boulevard) as Persephone, Trevor Dion Nicholas (Disney’s Hercules, Hamilton, Next to Normal) as Hades and Melanie La Barrie (& Juliet) as Hermes, alongside Dylan Wood (No Love Songs, Orphans) as Orpheus, and Madeline Charlemagne (The Secret Life of Bees, 42 Balloons) as Eurydice.

Hadestown intertwines two mythic love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone. Billed as a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience, Hadestown blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz.

The show first premiered at the National Theatre in 2018, and has gone on to enjoy a successful run on Broadway where it won 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.

Hadestown enjoyed great reviews from the London theatre critics when it opened in February 2023. The show has music, lyrics and book by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, and is directed by Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin (Mission Drift, Hadestown on Broadway).

The creative team also includes David Neumann (choreography), Rachel Hauck (scenic design), Michael Krass (costume design), Bradley King (lighting design), Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz (sound design), Liam Robinson (music supervision and vocal arrangements), Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose (arrangements and orchestrations), Ken Cerniglia (dramaturgy), Maria Crocker (UK Associate Director), Tarek Merchant (Musical Director), Jacob Sparrow (London casting).

The London production has recently put out a London cast recording of Hadestown with Hadestown – Live From London now available to buy or stream.

Hadestown is booking at the Lyric Theatre until 28 September 2025.

Hadestown stars Eva Noblezada and Reeve Carney are making good use of their time in London: the pair will also star in a concert in London, with Eva Noblezada and Reeve Carney – Live in London playing the His Majesty’s Theatre on Sunday 9 February 2025.

Current Hadestown star Trevor Dion Nicholas is set to star in Disney’s Hercules at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane this summer.
