An update on West End cast albums, as news comes in about Hadestown and Starlight Express cast recordings.

Hadestown cast album

West End show Hadestown is releasing a Hadestown – Live From London cast album.

The Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical, which is now playing at the Lyric Theatre in London, will release its cast album on 6 December 2024.

Hadestown – Live From London will be released in three physical formats: standard black vinyl, a limited-edition deluxe gatefold “pop-up” vinyl and compact disc, plus for digital download and on streaming services.

The album was recorded during a live performance at the Lyric Theatre on 25 August 2024, and features the original London cast including Dónal Finn (Orpheus), Grace Hodgett Young (Eurydice), Zachary James (Hades), Melanie La Barrie (Hermes), Gloria Onitiri (Persephone) Bella Brown, Madeline Charlemagne, and Allie Daniel (Fates), Lauren Azania, Tiago Dhondt Bamberger, Beth Hinton-Lever, Waylon Jacobs, and Christopher Short (Workers), with Lucinda Buckley, Winny Herbert, Ryesha Higgs, Ediz Mahmut, Miriam Nyarko, Brianna Ogunbawo and Simon Oskarsson as Swings.

Composer Anaïs Mitchell said in a statement: “I’m so thrilled to share this audio document of our glorious, once-in-a-lifetime, original West End company and all the ways they made this show their own! Almost the entirety of the recording comes from one single show- the final matinee performance of Dónal and Grace- and is a record of the company as it bids goodbye to two beloved members. You can hear it in the performers giving their all, as much to each other as to the audience. I’m so grateful we caught this magic on tape- a definitive moment in an ever-evolving show.”

Starlight Express cast album out today

The new cast recording of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express has been released today, 15 November 2024.

Recorded at Air Edel Studios in London, and produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Matthew Brind and Andrei Basirov, the album features new track ‘I Do’, written by Alastair Webber.

The cast album is from Luke Sheppard’s hit new immersive production at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in London.

The show stars Jeevan Braich as Rusty, Kayna Montecillo as Pearl, Jade Marvin as Momma McCoy, Al Knott as Greaseball, Eve Humphrey as Dinah and Tom Pigram as Electra.

Andrew Lloyd Webber said in a statement: “Starlight Express’ return to London has been an absolute joy for me. I knew immediately that we needed a cast album to capture this brilliant show.”
