Carrie Hope Fletcher to star in Calamity Jane new UK tour prior to the West End

West End favourite Carrie Hope Fletcher (Cinderella, Les Misérables) is set to star in a new UK & Ireland tour of Calamity Jane, ahead of a West End run for the show.

The much-loved classic musical will start at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre in January 2025, and then tour the UK and Ireland.

Tour dates then include the Theatre Royal Brighton, King’s Theatre Glasgow, Liverpool Empire, Manchester Opera House, Milton Keynes Theatre, Regent Theatre Stoke-On-Trent, the Sunderland Empire, the New Wimbledon Theatre, New Victoria Woking and the Grand Opera House York.

Carrie Hope Fletcher will take the lead role of Calamity Jane. Carrie is one of the West End’s leading stars, and is an accomplished actress, singer-songwriter, author and YouTube and social media star.

Her recent theatre credits include The Crown Jewels in the West End and on tour, Sleeping Beauty at Marlowe Theatre, Caucasian Chalk Circle at the Rose Theatre Kingston, and the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella in the West End.

Carrie’s previous credits include playing Young Eponine aged 9 in Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre, and later as older Eponine and Fantine, plus Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, A Christmas Carol, The Addams Family, Heathers: The Musical, and Mary Poppins.

Carrie Hope Fletcher said “Calamity Jane is one of those roles that doesn’t come around all too often. She’s action, romance and comedy all packed into one character, and I can’t wait to take on the challenge of filling her shoes!”

Calamity Jane is based on the classic movie starring Doris Day, with the screenplay of the movie by James O’Hanlon adapted for the stage by Charles K. Freeman.

The show has music by Sammy Fain and lyrics by Paul Francis Webster, with a score of glorious songs including The Black Hills of Dakota, The Deadwood Stage (Whip-Crack-Away), Just Blew in from the Windy City, and Secret Love.

This new tour is based on the Watermill Theatre Newbury’s successful production, and produced by Jamie Wilson Productions company (Mrs Doubtfire, Sister Act, Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical, The Devil Wears Prada). Wilson’s previous tour of the show starred Jodie Prenger.

We have been waiting for the right moment and artist to step into Calamity’s boots and bring this hilarious and joyful musical back to the nation, and we are thrilled that Carrie Hope Fletcher will be leading the company as the iconic Calamity Jane. Carrie is one of the UK’s most talented artists who’s broad fan base will introduce this much beloved musical to audiences across the country.”

Calamity Jane is directed by Nikolai Foster, co-directed and choreographed by Nick Winston and with musical supervision by Olivier, Grammy and Tony Award winner Catherine Jayes.

The producers of Calamity Jane have plans for the show to eventually whip crack to the West End, but not further details have been announced.

Other Carrie Hope Fletcher projects this year include Carrie performing in new tour, Carrie Hope Fletcher: Love Letters, including a show at the London Palladium on 1 October 2024.
