Chess – the iconic musical by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Tim Rice returns to the West End
Following the critically acclaimed productions of Sweeney Todd, Sunset Boulevard and Carousel, Michael Linnit and Michael Grade in collaboration with English National Opera present the first major West End revival of Chess.
Chess, the much loved musical by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Tim Rice, returns to the West End for the first time in over 30 years, for 5 weeks only, in a new production, directed by Laurence Connor.
With a star cast, joined by members of the ENO’s award-winning Orchestra and Chorus, it features the iconic songs ‘I Know Him So Well’, ‘One Night in Bangkok’ and ‘Heaven Help My Heart’.
Chess will run from 26 April 2018 until 2 June 2018 at the London Coliseum.
Two of the world’s greatest chess masters, an American and a Russian, battle it out at the world championships – but their greatest contest is for the love of the same woman.
From Bangkok to Budapest, the romantic love triangle mirrors the heightened passions of the Cold War as players, lovers, politicians and spies all struggle to get the upper-hand.
Full casting to be announced.
Music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus with lyric by Tim Rice. Directed by Laurence Connor with choreography by Stephen Mear.
