Michael Ball, Alexandra Burke & Cassidy Janson confirmed for ENO’s Chess

Michael Ball, Alexandra Burke and Cassidy Janson will star in the West End revival of Chess at the London Coliseum this Spring.

Olivier Award-winner Michael Ball (Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd) will play Anatoly, with the former BBC Stricly Come Dancing and X-Factor star Alexandra Burke (The Bodyguard, Sister Act) playing Svetlana, Murray Head (original Chess production, Jesus Christ Superstar) will star as The Arbiter, Tim Howar (Peggy Sue Got Married, On The Town) as Freddie and Cassidy Janson (Beautiful, Tick Tick Boom) as Florence.

CHESS tells a story of love and political intrigue, set against the background of the Cold War in the late 1970s/early 1980s, in which superpowers attempt to manipulate an international chess championship for political ends.

Written in 1984 by ABBA songwriters Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and Tim Rice’s (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King, Evita) the orignal production starred Elaine Paige, Murray Head and Tommy Korberg.

The production will be directed by Laurence Connor (School of Rock, Miss Saigon) with choreography by Stephen Mear.
