Joe DiPietro, Luke Sheppard, Arlene Phillips lead the creative team

New musical What’s New Pussycat?, featuring the iconic pop hits of Tom Jones, is getting closer to the Broadway stage.

Producers of the show have announced a new industry presentation in New York for the Broadway-bound musical, that is also hotly tipped to be coming to the West End.

The industry presentation will be held in New York on 25 and 26 July 2025.

What’s New Pussycat? is written by Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro (Nice Work If You Can Get It, Diana, Memphis) and directed by award winning British director Luke Sheppard (& Juliet, Paddington The Musical, Starlight Express).

What’s New Pussycat? is billed as a wildly entertaining new musical comedy that brings together Henry Fielding’s classic novel Tom Jones with the hits of Welsh star Sir Tom Jones.

Set in swinging 1960s London, What’s New Pussycat? follows a charming young romantic on a madcap quest to win back the love of his life, and boasts over 20 chart-topping songs, including “It’s Not Unusual,” “Delilah,” and “What’s New Pussycat?”.

The industry presentation will star Taylor Louderman (Tony Award nominee, Mean Girls), Dominic Andersen (Heathers), Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer (Tony Award nominee, Spamalot), John-Andrew Morrison (Tony Award nominee, A Strange Loop), Kuhoo Verma (Monsoon Wedding), Erich Bergen (Jersey Boys, Boop!), Veanne Cox (Tony Award nominee, Company; Caroline, Or Change), and David Harris (Moulin Rouge!).

Joining Luke Sheppard is a largely British team, including Olivier Award nominee Jon Bausor (scenic design), Olivier winner Dame Arlene Phillips (choreography), Tony and Olivier Award nominee Howard Hudson (lighting design), Tony Award nominee and Olivier Award winner Gareth Owen (sound design), Janet Bird (costume design), and casting is by the Telsey Office.

Musical arrangement and supervision is by Olivier Award nominee Matthew Brind (Come Alive! The Greatest Showman Circus Spectacular), who Luke Sheppard is also collaborating with on major new London show Paddington The Musical, which opens at the Savoy Theatre in November.

What’s New Pussycat? is executive produced by Flody Suarez (The Cher Show) and Wagner Johnson Productions. Wagner Johnson Productions serves as the General Manager.

The show is no stranger to UK shores, having premiered at Birmingham Rep back in 2021, with the same creative team. The cast included Dominic Andersen (Heathers, Mamma Mia!, Glow & Darkness) as Tom Jones, and Bronté Barbé (Kathy & Stella Solve A Murder) as Mary Western. The ensemble included no other than West End and Broadway star Tom Francis.
