US actor Roger Bart has been tipped to star as Doc Brown in Jamie Lloyd’s big musical remake of Back to the Future.
He is rumoured to be playing the part of mad professor Doc Brown (played by Christopher Lloyd in the hit 80’s movie) in the workshop tryouts of the show, and if all goes well, may end up playing the role in the West End.
Tony Award winner Bart’s credits include Broadway shows Young Frankenstein and The Producers, and on TV in Desperate Housewives.
Opening in the West End in 2015 – which will mark the 30th anniversary of the movie starring Michael J Fox – the show is to be directed by Jamie Lloyd and designed by Soutra Gilmour. The pair currently have Richard III in production at the Trafalgar Studios and The Commitments at the Palace Theatre, and Urinetown coming to the Apollo Theatre this Autumn.
The musical is penned by Bob Gale, who wrote the movie, and the film’s director Robert Zemeckis, with original songs by Glen Ballard (Ghost The Musical) and the movie’s original composer Alan Silvestri.
