Nominations have been announced for the annual 76th Emmy Awards 2024, organised by the Television Academy in the US.

Announced live from the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, the nominations were revealed by Emmy winners Tony Hale and Sheryl Lee Ralph, along with Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego.

The Bear set a new record for nominations in a single year in the Comedy category with 23 (previously held by 30 Rock with 22 nominations in 2009), and Shōgun lead this year’s Drama category with 25 nominations.

British drama Baby Reindeer scored 11 nominations for Richard Gadd‘s darkly comic true story, which started life as an Edinburgh Fringe play.

British and Irish stars nominated for 2024 Emmys include Imelda Staunton (The Crown), Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers), Richard Gadd (performance, producer and writing nominations for Baby Reindeer), Tom Goodman-Hill (Baby Reindeer), Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer), Tom Hollander (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans), Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), Lesley Manville (The Crown), Dominic West (The Crown), Jonathan Pryce (performance for The Crown and Slow Horses), Andrew Scott (performance and producer for Ripley), Claire Foy (The Crown), Idris Elba (Hijack), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), Juno Temple (Fargo), Olivia Coleman (The Bear), Michaela Coel (Mrs & Mrs Smith), Stephen Daldry (The Crown), Hannah Waddingham (Krapopolis), Sir David Attenborough (Planet Earth III) and Alan Cumming (The Traitors).

Emmy nominees currently – or about – to star in the West End include Imelda Staunton in Hello, Dolly! at the London Palladium; Dominic West in A View From the Bridge at the Theatre Royal Haymarket; Jonathan Bailey in Richard II at the Bridge Theatre; and Lesley Manville in Oedipus at the Wyndham’s Theatre.
