Winners have been announced in Los Angeles for the 76th Emmy Awards 2024, organised by the Television Academy in the US.

Co-hosted by Schitt’s Creek stars Dan and Eugene Levy, the awards were announced last night, 15 September 2024, at the Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater.

One of the big winners of the night was British drama Baby Reindeer, Richard Gadd’s darkly comic true story, which started life as an Edinburgh Fringe play. The show scored 4 wins out of 11 nominations, including three wins for Richard Gadd for actor, writer and producer, and Jessica Gunning for acting.

Richard Gadd is set to star in White Rabbit Red Rabbit at @sohoplace theatre in London’s West End this autumn, appearing in the show on 13 October.

The Crown had 18 nominations but only won one, for Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana in the TV drama. Her nominated co-stars included Imelda Staunton, who finished starring in Hello, Dolly! at the London Palladium this weekend, Dominic West, Lesley Manville (Oedipus), Jonathan Pryce (White Rabbit Red Rabbit), Claire Foy, and director Stephen Daldry.

The Traitors host Alan Cumming collected the trophy for best reality competition show, which beat RuPaul’s Drag Race. Alan Cumming was announced last week as the new artistic director of the Pitlochry Festival Theatre in Scotland.

The Bear set a new record for nominations in a single year in the Comedy category with 23 (previously held by 30 Rock with 22 nominations in 2009), and won four awards; Shōgun lead this year’s Drama category with 25 nominations, and won five awards including Best Drama series. Hacks starring Jean Smart took home Best Comedy series.

In other awards, Billy Crudup, who recently starred in Harry Clarke in the West End, won best supporting drama actor for The Morning Show; and Jodie Foster won best actress in a limited series for True Detective: Night Country.

Alex Edelman won Outstanding writing for a variety special for Alex Edelman: Just For Us, which played the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2023.  

British and Irish stars nominated for 2024 Emmys this year included Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers), Tom Goodman-Hill (Baby Reindeer), Tom Hollander (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans), Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), Andrew Scott (performance and producer for Ripley), Idris Elba (Hijack), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), Juno Temple (Fargo), Olivia Coleman (The Bear), Michaela Coel (Mrs & Mrs Smith), Hannah Waddingham (Krapopolis), and Sir David Attenborough (Planet Earth III).
