Abigail’s Party Tickets London – Harold Pinter Theatre

Mike Leigh’s legendary black comedy Abigail’s Party transfers to the West End following its critically acclaimed UK tour.

Starring Tamzin Outhwaite (EastEnders, New Tricks) as the unforgettable Beverley and Kevin Bishop (The Kevin Bishop Show) as Laurence, this new production is directed by Young Vic Artistic Director Nadia Fall and plays a strictly limited season at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 12 August to 19 September 2026.

Set in Essex in 1977, Abigail’s Party follows a disastrous drinks party where awkward small talk, social ambition and simmering marital tensions spiral spectacularly out of control.

Sharp, hilarious and painfully recognisable, Mike Leigh’s modern classic remains one of British theatre’s most iconic comedies.

Tamzin Outhwaite stars as Beverley

Television and stage star Tamzin Outhwaite takes on one of the most famous roles in British theatre as the wine-fuelled, socially ambitious Beverley.

She is joined by Kevin Bishop, Pandora Colin, Omar Malik and Lauren Patel in Nadia Fall’s acclaimed production, which received strong reviews during its Stratford East run.

What is Abigail’s Party about?

Essex, 1977. Beverley is hosting.

The drinks are flowing, Demis Roussos is on the record player and the cheese and pineapple sticks are ready for the neighbours.

As Beverley and husband Laurence entertain Angela, Tony and next-door neighbour Sue, an evening of awkward conversation and forced hospitality quickly descends into flirtation, conflict and comic disaster.

Meanwhile, Sue’s teenage daughter Abigail is throwing her own party nearby — though thankfully, we never actually meet her.

Why is Abigail’s Party so famous?

First performed in 1977, Abigail’s Party has become one of the defining British comedies of the twentieth century.

Originally developed through improvisation by Mike Leigh and the cast — including Alison Steadman in the original production — the play remains celebrated for its razor-sharp observations of class, social anxiety and suburban life.

Its influence on British comedy and television drama continues to be felt decades after its premiere.
