Michael Longhurst, outgoing artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse, has announced the Covent Garden venue’s new season for Spring and Summer 2024.
First up is a brand new play by Olivier Award winner Lucy Kirkwood (Chimerica, The Witches), billed as a story of political and private passions, set against the backdrop of the beginnings of the NHS.
The Human Body will feature TV stars Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard, Line of Duty) and Jack Davenport (Call My Agent, The Morning Show) in this romantic drama set in rural Shropshire in 1948.
Directed by Michael Longhurst and Ann Yee, The Human Body will run at the Donmar from 16 February to 13 April 2024.
Next up is a revival of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, in a version adapted and directed by Australian theatre director Benedict Andrews.
The production will star Nina Hoss, one of Germany’s most celebrated stage and screen actors (Homeland, Tár), alongside two-time BAFTA award winner Adeel Akhtar (Sherwood, Murdered by My Father).
The creative team also includes Design by Magda Willi, Costume Design by Merle Hensel, Lighting Design by James Farncombe, Sound Design by Dan Balfour and Casting by Anna Cooper CDG.
Benedict’s previous productions include Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire at the Young Vic starring Gillian Anderson and Ben Foster.
The Cherry Orchard will run from 26 April to 22 June 2024.
Finally, the Donmar presents the European premiere of Primary Trust by award-winner Eboni Booth.
Directed by Olivier Award-winner Matthew Xia (Feeling Afraid As If Something Terrible Is Going To Happen), Primary Trust is an absorbing and funny story about having the courage to change.
Primary Trust runs at the Donmar Warehouse from 28 June to 24 August 2024.
Yesterday the Donmar Warehouse announced that their critically acclaimed production of musical Next To Normal is transferring into the West End, coming to the Wyndham’s Theatre in June next year.
Currently playing at the Donmar Warehouse in Lynn Nottage drama Clyde’s until 2 December, followed by David Tennant and Cush Jumbo in Macbeth, from 8 December 2023 to 10 February 2024.
Michael Longhurst announced he was leaving the Donmar Warehouse in January. His replacement will be Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre artistic director Timothy Sheader, who takes over at the Donmar in March 2024.
