Russell Tovey is set to reprise his solo tour de force in Felix Barrett’s white-knuckle thriller The Guilty, which moves from the Donmar Warehouse to the Harold Pinter Theatre in 2027, with over 20,000 tickets at £40 or less.
It has been announced today that the critically acclaimed, sell-out Donmar production of The Guilty, starring Russell Tovey, will transfer to the West End in 2027. Directed by Felix Barrett, the production will open at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 16 January, and run until 3 April.
On the announcement, Russell Tovey said, “I’ve never quite had an experience like The Guilty, every single performance at the Donmar vibrated with an energy I’ve never felt on stage – audience and performer connected and intertwined – I cannot wait to perform it in The Pinter.”
A critically acclaimed world premiere
The Guilty premiered at the Donmar Warehouse earlier this year to critical acclaim, with The London Standard calling the production “short, sharp and bracingly, repeatedly shocking”.
Likewise Time Out hailed it as “a bloody good real-time thriller”, while The Telegraph hailed Tovey’s performance for delivering “a solo tour de force”.
Donmar’s Artistic Director Tim Sheader and Executive Director Henny Finch added, “Donmar audiences were mesmerised this summer by The Guilty in our intimate theatre, and we are excited that even more people will now get to experience this ‘thrilling shot of theatrical adrenaline’ (The London Standard) as it transfers into the West End.”
What is The Guilty about?
Russell Tovey stars as troubled police officer Joe, stuck on desk duties, who takes a desperate 999 call from Emily. As he scrambles to decode fragmented clues from a woman in danger, a heart-stopping thriller unfolds. In a night filled with unsettling twists, Joe has a growing sense that nothing is quite as it seems.
The play is written by Chloë Moss and based on the film Den Skyldige, written by Gustav Möller and Emil Nygaard Albertsen.
