A dazzling display of speed, skill and flight lands in Earls Court this spring. Following their acclaimed production of Ethiopian Dreams, Circus Abyssinia returns with the exhilarating London premiere of their second production Tulu.

Celebrating the true tale of an Ethiopian Olympic icon, Derartu Tulu, this is an unmissable showcase of superhuman strength. A blend of breathtaking contortion, awe-inspiring acrobatics and mesmerising fire-juggling with a rocking, exuberant soundtrack.

The first circus company created by and for Ethiopian artists, Circus Abyssinia made their UK debut at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe and also featuring on the Royal Variety Performance in the same year. After touring internationally, including a sell-out run in Singapore, they are thrilled to return to London with their greatly anticipated new show.

Underbelly Festival launches programme for new Cavendish Square home
The Underbelly Festival has announced its new programme of live performances for Summer 2021 - running from 1 July to 26 September 2021. This year Underbelly will be based in Cavendish Square in W1, a stone's throw from Oxford Street. The programme includes cabaret, circus, comedy, variety, podcasts, and family shows for its Spiegeltent, plus a range of street food and summer outdoor bars. In a European premiere, the cabaret promises to transport audiences to Bernie’s underground cabaret club where some of the world’s best cabaret acts can be found. TuckShop are also returning to the festival this year. They are the home of UK drag and creators of iconic Underbelly Festival favourites such as Spice Gals and Gals Aloud, as well as West End hit Death Drop. They are returning to the festival with a brand new interactive, retro drag show inspired by everyone’s favourite decade, The Sickening 90s Drag Prom. TuckShop will also run a series of late night Saturday shows and afterparties, plus they will also open the festival with a raucous variety night of drag. Other artists performing during the festival include the king of improvised comedy hip-hop, Abandoman, bringing a high-tech performance. Joining him in the programme are pop parodists’ par-excellence Frisky & Mannish with the final chance to see their hilarious Pop Lab, and cabaret collective The Cocoa Butter Club, who will showcase a brand-new queer burlesque extravaganza. Circus & Comedy Line-up for 10 Year Underbelly Festiva
Circolombia & SOAP join Circus Abyssinia & Circa’s Peepshow as headliners at this year’s Underbelly Festival on the Southbank. Events have been scheduled throughout the summer with: Comedy from Gina Yashere, James Acaster, Nina Conti, Ruby Wax, Sara Pascoe, and Stephen K. Amos & Limmy. Circus, Cabaret & Variety will be provided by Knightmare Live, Frisky & Mannish, and Magical Bones & Jess Robinson. See here for UNDERBELLY FESTIVAL SUMMER 2022 line-up and tickets Celebrating the festivals’ 10th anniversary, in addition to headline shows from some of the finest purveyors of circus in the world, there will be a host of family shows including Metta Theatre’s The Little Mermaid, Dick and Dom, The Amazing Bubble Man, Morgan & West, Funz & Gamez and Monski Mouse’s Baby Disco Dancehall. Highlights of the exciting festival line-up include the Ethiopian Fringe sensation Circus Abyssinia starring the amazing Bibi and Bichu, who will be joined by the well known circus troupe from Australia, Circa, who bring their brand new extravaganza Circa’s Peepshow (6 April - 20 May). The award winning German production of SOAP brings to the festival a modern twist on the grand tradition of European Circus. With the theme of acrobatics and water combining to create a thrilling and extraordinary visual event brace yourself for mop ballet and bathtub acrobatics. Hit of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe last year, Circolombia, add to the colourful line-up with a flame filled circus-concert with Latin flavour that joins with a powerful soundtrack some of the world’s best circus performers. In addition to Circus, Comedy will be performed live on the Southbank throughout the Spring and Summer and include, The Daily Show star Gina Yashere (22nd-24 June), Ventriloquist superstar Nina Conti (28th April to 1st July), comic legend Ruby Wax (26th-27 May). Alongside many more of the very best comedians other notable favourites include, Dane Baptiste & Friends (7th July), the awesome Katy Brand (26th April), James Acaster (9th May), Sara Pascoe (19th-20 May), Danny Bhoy (4th June) and Stephen K. Amos (8th June). The directors of Underbelly,Ed Bartlam and Charlie Woods, recently released a joint statement, “we’re celebrating in style with our most exciting programme yet. As well as providing a range of brilliant comedy, cabaret, family entertainment…our headline shows all demonstrate the richness and variety of circus performance all around the world.” Other acts at the festival this year will include, Glasgow’s dark comedy renaissance man Limmy for a screening of his legendary Vines (2nd June), cult interactive gameshow Knightmare Live (17th June & 8 July), Frisky and Mannish (29th May), circus extravaganza Elixir, and impressions from Jess Robinson (31st May & 5th July). The Underbelly Festival, Southbank, close to London’s West End will be on from the 6th April to 30th September 2018.
London Wonderground Expands
Underbelly and the Southbank Centre presents London Wonderground London Wonderground returns for its second year on the South Bank. A summer long festival of the best cabaret, circus and sideshows from around the world will take residence on London’s South Bank from the 24 July. LIMBO continues to headline the Wonderground until the 29 September. London Wonderground returns for its second year, bringing a piece of Coney Island to the South Bank of London. Underbelly and the Southbank Centre will present a summer long festival of the world’s best cabaret, circus and sideshows from the 24 July. The current site will expand once the Udderbelly cow moves to Edinburgh and will embrace the world of the unusual and unique to become the capitals playground. The Wonderground offers live entertainment, fairground rides and outdoor bars, creating an amusement ground to be enjoyed by all on the transformed coach park between the Royal Festival Hall and the London Eye. LIMBO will continue to headline in the 1920s inspired Spiegeltent until the 29 September. The critically acclaimed show is a heady mix of circus, acrobatics, live music and dance which has been exciting audiences since May. Upcoming season highlights include: BRIEFS: THE SECOND COMING: Fresh from glitter bombing the globe, the cult variety show returns to London with a brand spanking new show. Rob Delaney: His Soho Theatre debut last year sold out in one hour, after just one tweet from the man instead. With close to one million followers and named the “Funniest Person on Twitter” he is one of the brightest and most brilliant live stand-ups rounds. He comes to London Wonderground for two nights only. Shlomo: Internationally acclaimed, record breaking human beatboxer and World Loopstation Champion is back with his latest show. Shlomo will also be performing his is ground-breaking award-winning Shlomo's Beatbox Adventures for Kids for 4 shows only in August. Silencio: Prepare yourself for an immersive trip to a parallel world as you enter a silent scene of film, cabaret, disco and live music. The award-winning East End Cabaret are Creative Directors. London Wonderground is part of Southbank Centre’s Festival of Neighbourhood with MasterCard this summer until the 8 September.
