Disney villain. Octo-woman. Plus-size icon. Unfortunate: The Untold Story of Ursula the Sea Witch returns to London this Christmas, with an extended run at Southwark Playhouse Elephant.

A hit at the Underbelly Festival last summer and sold-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, this hilarious parody musical is from multi-award-winning theatre company Fat Rascal.

News about Unfortunate: The Untold Story Of Ursula The Sea Witch

Disney parody musical Unfortunate back in London this Christmas
Southwark Playhouse Elephant will host an extended run of the hit musical parody Unfortunate: The Untold Story of Ursula the Sea Witch this winter. The show proved a hit last year at the Underbelly Festival in London, and has sold-out multiple runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, and now gets a 10 week run in London. Unfortunate will play Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 8 December 2023 to 17 February 2024. The show, which has music by Tim Gilvin and book and lyrics by Robyn Grant and Daniel Foxx, is getting a new script and production, promising to be bigger, bolder and sexier than ever before. The creative team also includes direction by Robyn Grant, set, costume and puppet designer Abby Clarke, choreographer Melody Sinclair and musical director Arlene McNaught. Flying and effects are by John Maddox for Suspended Illusions. Casting is by Sarah Leung CDG. When Disney released The Little Mermaid in 1989, they had no idea they were giving birth to an icon diva. Ursula the Sea Witch quickly took her place as the queen of Disney villains: a pop culture legend and a feminist badass, and a queer icon with a message for us poor unfortunate souls: love the skin you’re in, value your voice over your body, and don’t be afraid to be a little bit nasty.  Unfortunate: The Untold Story of Ursula the Sea Witch celebrates all of that in this riotous show. Unfortunate is also heading off on a big UK tour in 2024, including: The Lowry, Manchester: 22nd February - 2nd March 2024; Liverpool Playhouse: 5th - 9th March 2024; His Majesty's Theatre, Aberdeen: 12th - 16th March 2024; The Orchard Theatre, Dartford: 19th - 23rd March 2024; Birmingham Hippodrome: 11th - 13th April 2024; New Theatre, Peterborough: 16th - 20th April 2024; The Pavilion Theatre, Glasgow: 30th April - 4th May 2024; New Theatre, Cardiff: 7th - 11th May 2024; Palace Theatre, Southend: 28th May - 1st June 2024; Churchill Theatre, Bromley: 18th - 22nd June 2024; Theatre Royal, Nottingham: 24th - 29th June 2024. Ursula’s lair is finally ready to welcome you back and brimming with surprises, we just need our final ingredient… you!”  When Disney released ‘The Little Mermaid’ in 1989, they had no idea they were giving birth to an icon. Ursula the Sea Witch quickly took her place as the queen of Disney villains: a pop culture legend and a feminist badass. She’s loud. She’s clever. She’s a ruthless businesswoman, and oh boy. is she sexy. Sexy, and unapologetically fat.  She’s not defined by slipper-sized feet, or enchanted blonde hair, or snow-white skin. Ursula is plump, purple and proud. For the LGBTQ+ community stands Ursula, defiant against her creator and with a message for all us ‘poor unfortunate souls’: love the skin you’re in, value your voice over your body, and don’t be afraid to be a little bit nasty”  Who better to take us on a scorching trip through the problematic minefield that is Disney?
