Electra/Persona Tickets London
Cate Blanchett is back.
The two-time Academy Award winner (Tár, Blue Jasmine) returns to the National Theatre in the world premiere of Electra/Persona.
Reuniting Blanchett with her Tár co-star Nina Hoss, director Benedict Andrews fuses Sophocles’ Electra with Ingmar Bergman’s psychological masterpiece Persona in a bold new production exploring grief, identity and performance.
Featuring an original score by Academy Award-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, Electra/Persona is one of London’s most anticipated theatre events of 2026.
Book Electra/Persona tickets now at the National Theatre for this strictly limited run from 19 August to 10 October 2026.
What is Electra/Persona about?
An actress reaches breaking point. Electra waits endlessly for vengeance, while Elisabeth Vogler retreats into a silence that threatens to consume her completely.
Blending Sophocles’ Electra with Ingmar Bergman’s Persona, this ambitious new production explores grief, trauma and the masks we create to survive.
As the boundaries between myth and reality begin to dissolve, Electra/Persona becomes a haunting meditation on identity, memory and what remains when language fails.
What to expect at Electra/Persona
Expect a visually bold and psychologically charged production combining ancient tragedy with contemporary theatre-making.
Directed by Benedict Andrews, Electra / Persona brings together Cate Blanchett and Nina Hoss in an intense and ambitious new work at the National Theatre.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Cate Blanchett is scheduled to perform the role of Electra/Elizabeth for the duration of the limited run at the Lyttelton Theatre.
The play fusions two iconic stories: Sophocles’ Greek myth of a daughter seeking revenge for her father’s murder, and Ingmar Bergman’s film about an actress who stops speaking and the nurse who cares for her. It explores the psychological ‘mask’ (the persona) we wear in public versus our private grief.
