A number of high-profile West End shows are set to close in the next few weeks, including some long-running musicals and star-studded plays.

The spring months traditionally mark a period of transition in the West End, as theatres prepare for new summer openings.

Closing this weekend is hit West End show Mrs Doubtfire, which opened in May 2023 at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London. This funny, heartwarming show is based on the movie, and stars Gabriel Vick (Avenue Q) in the title role. Mrs Doubtfire closes this Saturday 26 April 2025. Coming up next into the Shaftesbury Theatre is Live Aid musical Just For One Day.

Also closing tomorrow, 26 April, are two major West End dramas: The Score starring Brian Cox (Succession) at the Theatre Royal Haymarket; and throuple comedy-drama Unicorn at the Garrick Theatre, starring Nicola Walker, Stephen Mangan & Erin Doherty.

The Score will be replaced by another Theatre Royal Bath show The Deep Blue Sea starring Tamsin Greig, from 7 May; and at the Garrick Theatre, Imelda Staunton stars in Mrs Warren’s Profession, from 10 May.

Next weekend, 3 and 4 May 2025, we say goodbye in the West End to the RSC’s climate-change drama Kyoto starring Stephen Kunken (Billions),  at Soho Place Theatre; the latest drama from Olivier Award winner Robert Icke, Manhunt, about murderer Raoul Moat, finishing up at the Royal Court Theatre; and fast-paced comedy Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors starring Charlie Stemp at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London.

Further into May, high-profile London shows closing include Jonathan Bailey (Wicked) starring in Nicholas Hytner’s new production of Richard II at the Bridge Theatre (ends 10 May); and Victoria Smurfit (Rivals) and Callum Scott Howells in the critically acclaimed revival of Ibsen’s Ghosts at the Lyric Hammersmith (ends 10 May).

Other shows finishing in May include Tim Crouch’s An Oak Tree at The Young Vic, and James Graham’s Dear England at the National Theatre.
