Les Misérables celebrated its 40th anniversary at this Sunday’s 2025 Olivier Awards, with a special, star-studded performance.
The annual awards took place at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 6 April 2025, with highlights airing on ITV1 and STV at 10.15pm on Sunday, and then on catch-up on ITVX.
Performers involved in the special Les Mis performance included Lucie Jones, Shan Ako, Nathania Ong, Rachelle Ann Go and Bradley Jaden.
The performance saw the stars sing “On My Own”, “I Dreamed A Dream”, and “Stars” from the hit show.
Les Misérables recently extended its booking period at the Sondheim Theatre in London until 28 March 2026.
The current company features Ian McIntosh (Jesus Christ Superstar, Beautiful) as Jean Valjean, Stewart Clarke (Cabaret) as Javert, Jacob Dachtler (Mamma Mia! The Party) as Marius, Amena El-Kindy as Éponine, Annabelle Aquino as Cosette, and Katie Hall (The Phantom of the Opera) as Fantine. Also starring are Luke Kempner (Avenue Q) as Thénardier, Claire Machin as Madame Thénardier, and Robson Broad (Street Scene) as Enjolras.
Now in its 40th year in London, Les Misérables celebrates its 40th birthday on 8 October 2025, forty years after the show opened in 1985 at the Barbican Theatre in London.
The milestone has also been marked by epic new stadium concert tour Les Misérables The Arena Spectacular, which debuted in Belfast and has toured around the UK, and now the world.
In addition to the global tour, this year sees the unprecedented staging of Let The People Sing! The UK Amateur Premiere of Les Misérables, with 11 leading UK amateur theatre companies staging a full-scale production.
Featuring the iconic score by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, Les Misérables includes beloved songs such as “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” “Do You Hear the People Sing?,” and “One Day More.” Since its premiere, the musical has been performed in 53 countries and translated into 22 languages, having been seen by over 130 million people globally.
Olivier Awards 2025 winners this year included Fiddler on the Roof, winning Best Musical Revival, Giant scoring Best New Play, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button winning Best New Musical, and Robert Icke’s production of Oedipus winning Best Revival.
Other performances at this year’s 2025 Olivier Awards included Best New Musical and Best Musical Revival winners and nominees The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, MJ The Musical, Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet Of 1812, Why Am I So Single?; Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver! and Starlight Express.
This year’s awards are once again broadcast on ITV1 and on catch-up on ITVX, on the night of the awards. There is also live coverage of the awards on Magic Radio; and TikTok will return to provide Green Carpet coverage as the official mobile entertainment platform.
