Stephen Mangan will star as Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol at The Old Vic this winter.
Returning to the Old Vic for a fourth consecutive year, Jack Thorne’s (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Skins, Shameless) adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic festive tale will be directed by the Old Vic’s artistic director Matthew Warchus.
The cast also includes Bridgette Amofah (Mrs Cratchit), Geraint Downing (Ferdy/George), Nicola Espallardo (Jess), Karen Fishwick (Belle), Amanda Hadingue (Ghost of Christmas Past), Nick Hart (Nicholas), Oli Higginson (Fred), Rachel John (Ghost of Christmas Present/Mrs Fezziwig), Andrew Langtree (Father/Marley), Jack Shalloo (Bob Cratchit), Rose Shalloo (Little Fan), James Staddon (Fezziwig) and Samuel Townsend (Young Ebenezer).
The Episodes and Green Wing star was last on stage in Sean Foley’s ill-fated adaptation of The Man in the White Suit at the Wyndham’s Theatre in 2019. His numerous theatre credits include The Birthday Party (Harold Pinter Theatre), The People Are Friendly (Royal Court Theatre), Jeeves and Wooster (Duke of York’s Theatre), Hayfever (Savoy Theatre), Midsummer Night’s Dream (RSC) and Rules For Living (National Theatre).
The Old Vic’s acclaimed production will return with a live audience on 24 November 2021, with previews from 13 November.
Last year the production featured Andrew Lincoln (Teachers, The Walking Dead, Love Actually) in the role of Scrooge, with Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) previously starring in the role. A Christmas Carol tickets at the Old Vic are on sale.
