‘The Man in the White Suit’ to close West End run early

The Man in the White Suit will complete its run at the Wyndham’s Theatre in London a month earlier than planned.

The show, which opened to polarising reviews, was due to run until 11 January but will now play its final performance on 7 December 2019.

Starring Stephen Mangan, Kara Tointon and Sue Johnston the comedy failed to catch on with theatre-goes and despite heavy discounting producers have cited poor ticket sales for the early closure.

A statement issued on behalf of the show said: “Despite winning praise from audiences, sales for the show have not proved strong enough and producers have taken the difficult decision to end the run early.”

Based on the classic Ealing comedy film starring Alec Guinness, the show follows a research scientist who discovers a formula for indestructible material. Throw in an out-of-his league love interest and some baying crowds who attempt to foil his discovery and you could imagine how this might work on stage. Unfortunately this production, written and directed by Sean Foley, didn’t quite cut the mustard with today’s theatre-goers.

The Man In The White Suit is booking until 7 December 2020 at the Wyndham’s Theatre, London.
