Be More Chill

‘Be More Chill’ confirms surprise West End season

Be More Chill will make its West End debut at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London this June, it has been announced.

Based on the groundbreaking novel by Ned Vizzini, Be More Chill is a pop-rock, sci-fi musical that tells the story of an anxious teenager, ‘Jeremy’, who swallows a supercomputer pill named ‘The Squip’ in order to become more popular.

Like DEAR EVAN HANSEN the show appeals to a younger theatre audience and has been credited with broadening the appeal of musical theatre. The musical is written by Joe Tracz with original music and lyrics by Joe Iconis.

The show made its London debut at The Other Palace Theatre in June 2020 where it opened to critical acclaim, becoming the longest running show at the venue.  This surprise – yet welcome – West End transfer is down to unexpected availability at the Shaftesbury Theatre with current occupant, & Juliet, not due to begin performances until later in the year.  Be More Chill will open 30 June for a strictly limited 10-week season.

Many of the original London cast will return to the production with casting featuring Blake Patrick Anderson as Michael Mell and Stewart Clarke as The Squip.  Rounding out the cast are Miracle Chance (Christine Canigula), , Eloise Davies (Brooke Lohst), Scott Folan (Jeremy Heere), Christopher Fry (Mr Heere, Mr Reyes and others), James Hameed (Rich Goranski), Gabriel Hinchliffe (Ensemble), Eve Norris (Ensemble), Millie O’Connell (Chloe Valentine), Miles Paloma (Jake Dillinger).

The UK production is directed by Stephen Brackett with choreography by Chase Brock, set design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Bobby Frederick Tilley, lighting design by Tyler Micoleau, sound design by Ryan Rumery and projection design by Alex Basco Koch.

Musical supervision and orchestrations are by Charlie Rosen and music vocal arrangements are by Emily Marshall.

Be More Chill is booking from 30 June 2021 until 5 September 2021 at the Shaftesbury Theatre, London.

Be More Chill tickets are now available.
