Alexandra Burke to play The Narrator in ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’

Alexandra Burke will play The Narrator in the West End production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The former X-Factor winner and West End musical theatre actress joins Jac Yarrow and Jason Donovan, who return in the roles of Joseph and hip-swivelling Pharaoh. Burke’s previous West End credits include Chess, Chicago and The Bodyguard, as well as the touring production of Sister Act The Musical and My Best Friends Wedding. The role of The Narrator was previously played by Sheridan Smith in 2019.

Joseph returns to the London Palladium this July for a limited Summer season. Laurence Conner’s acclaimed 2019 revival had been due to return in 2020, however covid forced the show to reschedule to 2021.  The production hopes to play to full-capacity audiences in accordance with “step four” of the government’s roadmap.

Full casting for the 2021 show is to be announced.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical is based on the story of the coat of many colours from the Book of Genesis and features numbers such as “Close Every Door”, “Benjamin Calypso” and “Any Dream Will Do”. Released as a concept album in 1969, the stage version of Joseph has become one of the world’s most beloved family musicals over the last fifty years.

The creative team includes Laurence Connor (direction), JoAnn M Hunter (choreography), Morgan Large (set and costume design), Ben Cracknell (lighting) and Gareth Owen (sound).

Tickets for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tickets are now on  sale.

Joseph is booking from 1 July 2021 until Sunday 5 September 2021 at the London Palladium.
