It’s all change for London’s theatre scene this November as we say goodbye to a host of shows and welcome the start of the festive period. It’s not all Christmas as new musicals, dramatic plays and comedies light up London’s stages this November.

On 2 November, the highly anticipated new musical & Juliet begins preview performances at the Shaftesbury Theatre. You’ll have heard of the tragic tale of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, well & Juliet works on the premise that Juliet put down that fateful dagger and decided to create a new life. Tipped as a fun filled musical, & Juliet features classic songs by Max Martin – the song writing genius behind some of the greatest hits for artists including Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Ariana Grande and Celine Dion. The show stars Miriam Teak-Lee (Hamilton), Oliver Tompsett, Cassidy Janson and David Bedella.

The RSC’s acclaimed production of The Taming of the Shrew opens at the Barbican Centre. In this radical take on Shakespeare’s fierce and energetic comedy of gender, Justin Audibert directs a revelatory production set in a matriarchal world, with sumptuous Elizabethan costumes.
The Taming of the Shrew Tickets are available to book from 5 November 2019 until 18 January 2020.
Also opening is new show Reputation The Musical at The Other Palace for a limited run from 5 November thru 14 November. Not your average retro musical, Reputation is a compelling story of plagiarism and the female struggle for equality in 1930s Hollywood.

La Clique kicks off performances at the Leicester Square Spiegeltent. For those who haven’t seen this regular West End delight, its an alternative Christmas show featuring the crème de la crème of the worlds of circus, comedy, cabaret, subversive performance and contemporary Vaudeville. Bernie Dieter (Little Death Club) and her merry band of entertainers promise a night of laughs, gasps, naughtiness and the best in cheeky adult cabaret.

David Greig’s thrilling adaptation of Joe Simpson’s best-selling novel, Touching The Void, turned BAFTA-winning film, arrives at the Duke of York’s Theatre for a limited West End run. Life-affirming and often darkly funny, this extraordinary story charts Simpson and Yates’ struggle for survival in the Peruvian Andes. An epic adventure that asks how far you’d be willing to go to survive.

Also opening on 9 November is The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Sally Cookson’s acclaimed production of C. S Lewis’ magical tale roars to life at the Bridge Theatre. Step through the wardrobe this winter and join Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter for the most mystical of adventures in Narnia.

No need to head to Stratford Upon Avon, Royal Shakespeare Company Artistic Director Gregory Doran directs a new production of Measure for Measure at the Barbican Centre. When a young nun is compromised by a corrupt official, she has no idea where to turn for help.

Keep your eye on Cinderella as festive pantomime returns to Lyric Hammersmith. Expect the usual Lyric twist on Wicked Stepmothers, Ugly Stepsisters, pumpkins, mice and more in this classic fairytale story.

The Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s stupendous holiday favourite, The Snowman returns to the West End for a record-breaking 22nd year at the Peacock Theatre. With its wonderful mix of storytelling, spectacle and magic, watch enthralled as a young boy’s snowman comes to life and they set out on a night-time quest for adventure.

A daring new comedy, An Act of God is tipped as an alternative Christmas message as comedian Zoe Lyons plays a dissatisfied deity delivering a new version of the Ten Commandments: a fresh set of rules for the modern world. Hailed by the New York Times as ‘divinely funny’ it was inspired byEmmy award winning writer David Javerbaum’s twitter account @TheTweetofGod.

James McAvoy reunites with director Jamie Lloyd in a new adaptation of Cyrano De Bergerac. A breathtaking tale about the exquisite torture of loving from afar, this play is for anyone who has ever stood beneath a window.

It’s not Christmas without a production of A Christmas Carol. Charles Dickens’ timeless tale, spectacularly re-imagined for the stage by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) returns to the Old Vic this Christmas, starring Paterson Joseph as Ebenezer Scrooge. Feel closer to the uplifting story as entrancing lanterns, music and merriment are an ode to Christmas and the power of both forgiveness and redemption.

The West End premiere of Amelie The Musical begins previews at The Other Palace Theatre starring French-Canadian stage and screen actress Audrey Brisson. Inspired by the much loved five-time Oscar nominated film, Amelie The Musical is “an enchanting act of theatrical reinvention” (The Los Angeles Times) set to a critically acclaimed re-orchestrated score played by a talented cast of actor-musicians.
