The Secondary Victim to premiere at Park Theatre

The Park Theatre is to stage the world premiere of The Secondary Victim by Matthew Campling.

Inspired by real life experiences and with insider insight Campling’s play explores the growing world of blame culture within private practice psychotherapy and the vulnerability of counsellors in the age of accusation.

The production will star Susannah Doyle (About A Boy, Drop The Dead Donkey, Apple Tree Yard), Gary Webster (Minder, Family Affairs, EastEnders), Natasha Bain, Michael Hanratty, Matt Holt and Christopher Laishley.

The Secondary Victim is Campling’s 10th play, he is a former psychotherapist with twenty years experience and was a regular guest expert on ITV’s Trisha.

Matthew Campling notes: “In 2014, a former client made allegations of serious unethical behaviour against me. Despite my being exonerated by the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy), this hugely distressing experience made me acutely aware of how a therapist can be compromised outside the counseling room. We must always protect victims and investigate accusations, but the current, ever-mounting rise of ethical enquiries means this issue is an increasing area of counselor vulnerability.”

Matthew Gould returns to the Park Theatre to direct, his previous Park Theatre shows include Norma Jeane and The Glass Protégé.

The Secondary Victim runs from 4 November 2017 until 9 December 2017 at the Park Theatre.
