The smash-hit new stage adaptation of TV comedy Drop the Dead Donkey has added new dates to its UK tour – including a return to Richmond Theatre in London.
Written by the same writers as the much-loved TV series – Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, it has been 30 years since the trailblazing comedy hit TV screens, ripping into topical events courtesy of the Globelink News team.
Now, the show is back, with many of the cast from the TV series including Susannah Doyle, Robert Duncan, Ingrid Lacey, Neil Pearson, Jeff Rawle, Stephen Tompkinson and Victoria Wicks.
The only sad note is that Haydn Gwynne, one of the stars of the TV show, died in 2023.
The show is returning to Richmond Theatre from 18 to 22 June 2024 due to unprecedented demand, following an initial run at the theatre last week.
Drop The Dead Donkey: The Reawakening! exposes the underside of the broadcasting industry in all its riotous glory, and is directed by Derek Bond, with a creative team that includes Set & Costume Design by Peter McKintosh; Lighting Design by Peter Mumford; Associate Director Indiana Lown-Collins; Production Manager Ben Arkell; Composer Max Pappenheim; Sound Design by Ella Wahlström; Video Design by Dan Light; Props Supervisor PropWorks; Costume Supervisor Yvonne Milnes; and Wigs, Hair and Makeup Supervisor Craig Forrest-Thomas.
Writers Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin originally said in a statement that: “We’re overjoyed to be working again with the original cast of Drop The Dead Donkey, after a brief hiatus of about 30 years. It’s going to be hugely enjoyable to watch those 7 funny, flawed characters from Globelink News being plunged into the cutthroat world of modern 24-hour news gathering and trying to navigate their way through the daily chaos of social media, fake news, and Interim Prime Ministers.”
Other classic TV shows that are coming soon to the stage include An Evening with The Fast Show – which is playing a big UK tour this year; and the West End premiere of classic BBC sitcom Fawlty Towers, adapted for the stage by John Cleese, and opening at the Apollo Theatre in London.
