Meera Syal takes control of the orphanage in Nikolai Foster’s bold new production of Annie.

THE STORY

Set in 1930s New York during The Great Depression, brave young Annie is forced to live a life of misery and torment at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage.

Determined to find her real parents, her luck changes when she is chosen to spend Christmas at the residence of famous billionaire, Oliver Warbucks.

Spiteful Miss Hannigan has other ideas and hatches a plan to spoil Annie’s search…

THE CAST

The adult cast also features Meera Syal as Miss Hannigan, Alex Bourne as Daddy Warbucks, Holly Dale Spencer as Grace Farrell, Jonny Fines as Rooster and Djalenga Scott as Lily.

The title role of Annie will be shared by Madeleine Haynes, Lola Moxom and Ruby Stokes.

They will be joined by three teams of young performers who will play the girls in Miss Hannigan’s orphanage

Meera Syal to play Miss Hannigan in Annie

Comedian and actress Meera Syal will play Miss Hanigan in the West End production of Annie. Syal, who is probably best know for her work in BBC's comedy series The Kumars at No. 42 and Goodness Gracious Me, will join the production from 27 November 2017 and will play the role for the duration of the run. Meera Syal was last on stage earlier this year in a profoundly affectionate, passionate devotion to someone (-noun) at the Royal Court Theatre. Her numerous theatrical credits include Romeo & Juliet at the Garrick Theatre, Behind the Beautiful Forevers and Rafta Rafta for the National Theatre, Much Ado About Nothing for the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Killing of Sister George at the Arts Theatre and Shirley Valentine for the Menier Chocolate Factory. Her other tv credits include Midsomer Murders, Broadchurch, The Boy in the Dress, Silk, Bollywood Carmen, Doctor Who, The Amazing Mrs Pritchard and Life Isn’t All Ha Ha Hee Hee. Nikolai Foster’s production opened at the Piccadilly Theatre in May this year with Miranda Hart playing the tyrancial Miss Hannigan. BBC Stricly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood joined the Company last month to play the role from September until late November. Following its run atthe Piccadilly Theatre, the production will embark on a five week run at the Ed Mrivish Theatre in Toronto. Strictly stars support Craig Revel Horwood in Annie

BBC Strictly Come Dancing stars support Strictly Judge Craig Revel Horwood in Annie West End musical Annie officially welcomed Craig Revel Horwood to the role of Miss Hannigan at the Piccadilly Theatre last night. The Gala performance was attended by contestants and dance partners from the BBC Strictly Come Dancing series including Shirley Ballas, Chizzy Akudolu, Alexandra Burke, Debbie McGee, Brian Conoly, Gorka Marquez, Ian Waite and Giovanni Pernice. Craig Revel Horwood to play villainous Miss Hannigan in West End

Strictly Come Dancing Judge Craig Revel Horwood will join the West End production of Annie The Musical. Horwood replaces Miranda Hart in the role of Miss Hannigan for a 10-week stint from 18 September 2017. Better known as a judge on long-running television series BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, Craig's West End theatre credits include the role of Munkustrap in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats, Dance Captain in Miss Saigon and the role of Harry in Crazy for You. Due to his Strictly Come Dancing commitments he will not perform in Annie on Saturdays. Revel Horwood previously played the role of Miss Hannigan to widespread acclaim in Nikolai Foster's 2015 touring production of Annie. Craig Revel Horwood said: “I am so pleased to be returning to the West End, especially to a role I had such a brilliant time performing on tour. Miss Hannigan is evil, sassy and fab-u-lous. Reviews round-up for Annie starring Miranda Hart. The much anticipated West End revival of Annie starring comedian and oh-so likeable actress Miranda Hart has now opened at the Piccadilly Theatre. In her first leading West End role, Hart plays Miss Hannigan - the cruel, alcoholic and tyrannical supervisor of the orphanage. With top billing, Hart is unashamedly the draw card and according to the Telegraph 'she’s no Imelda Staunton in waiting, but singing and hoofing (after a fun fashion) she’s a triumph.' Full casting has been announced for the West End production of ANNIE - The Musical. Joining the previously announced Miranda Hart will be Alex Bourne (We Will Rock You, Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, West End) as Daddy Warbucks, Holly Dale Spencer (American Psycho, Almeida) as Grace Farrell, Jonny Fines (Grease, Curve) as Rooster and Djalenga Scott (Grease, Curve) as Lily. Hart will be playing her dream role of Miss Hannigan. The title role of Annie will be shared by Madeleine Haynes, Lola Moxom and Ruby Stokes.  They will be joined by three teams of young performers who will play the girls in Miss Hannigan’s orphanage. Annie's dog Sandy will be played by 4 year-old labradoodle - Amber. The award-winning writer and star of smash-hit TV shows Miranda and Call the Midwife makes her West End debut as the tyrannical Miss Hannigan in a stunning new production ANNIE at the Piccadilly Theatre. Miranda Hart is best known on television for her hugely successful, semi-auto-biographical and multi award-wining BBC sitcom Miranda which ran from 2009 for 3 series and 2 specials. Miranda Hart will make her West End Theatre debut playing Miss Hannigan in ANNIE. Is Miranda Hart getting ready for her West End debut?

Actress and comedian Miranda Hart is reportedly in advanced discussions to star in ANNIE The Musical at the Piccadilly Theatre. If it comes off, Hart will play Miss Hannigan, the inebriated harridan who runs the Dickensian-like orphanage where Annie languishes with other unwanted kids. Heart does have some stage experience however this role would be her musical theatre West End debut. Hart has a special affinity for the musical, at boarding school she used to practice acting out every part of ANNIE, so starring in a West End production would be fulfilling a life long dream. She's such a fan of the musical sh even included burlesque number Easy Street as one of her eight songs when she appeared on Desert Island Discs.
