Secret Cinema to open permanent flagship home at Greenwich Peninsula in London

Secret Cinema has officially announced plans to build a major new permanent home in London, marking a significant evolution for the world-renowned immersive entertainment company.

Subject to planning permission, the new flagship base will be located at Greenwich Peninsula, positioned as a “must-visit destination” for both Londoners and international tourists. The move represents a shift in the company’s strategy, from its traditional model of occupying “hidden” temporary sites, to a long-term, purpose-built cultural anchor.

The vision for the new venue

The proposed venue is a state-of-the-art, “boxy” demountable structure designed specifically to house Secret Cinema’s large-scale cinematic worlds. Unlike traditional theatres, the space is engineered for multi-sensory exploration and world-building.

The development is a 10-year project, allowing the site to serve as a cultural destination before the land is eventually used for residential housing as part of the wider Greenwich Peninsula Masterplan.

The Creative Team

Secret Cinema is collaborating with a specialised team of designers to bring the flagship to life. This includes architect Danny Lane of Studio DJL, who brings extensive experience in theatrical design.

Notably, Studio DJL is also the firm behind the new Capital Theatre in Westfield London, which is set to open in October 2026 with a reimagined, intimate production of Dirty Dancing.

When will it open?

Construction on the Secret Cinema flagship venue is expected to begin in June 2026. While a definitive opening date is subject to final planning approval, the company is currently targeting a late 2026 launch.

The news comes during a busy period for the Peninsula, which will also see the opening of the Troubadour Greenwich Peninsula Theatre, located in the same cultural district.

Troubadour was officially granted planning permission in January for the new 3,000-seat complex, featuring two 1,500-seat auditoriums.
