Woman in Mind completed its limited West End run at the Duke of York’s Theatre, closing on 28 February.

Much-loved, award-winning stage and screen star Sheridan Smith returned to the stage in a spellbinding revival of Alan Ayckbourn’s classic comedy Woman in Mind.

She was joined by acclaimed comedian Romesh Ranganathan, who made his West End debut alongside an exceptional ensemble cast.

Directed by Michael Longhurst (Constellations, Caroline or Change), Alan Ayckbourn’s riotous, ★★★★★ “dizzying black comedy” (Metro) explored one woman’s fractured reality with heart and humour, in a gripping examination of identity, family and mental escape.

About Woman in Mind

Woman in Mind remains one of Alan Ayckbourn’s most affecting plays — sharply funny, deeply moving and unflinchingly real. This acclaimed West End production starred Sheridan Smith and played a strictly limited season at the Duke of York’s Theatre, finishing on 28 February.

Sheridan Smith stars as Susan, a frustrated housewife whose dull marriage to a detached vicar leaves her yearning for more. After a bump on the head in her suburban garden, Susan is swept into a dazzling fantasy world of champagne picnics, tennis whites, and unconditional love.

In her dream life, she is adored by a perfect family who treat her like royalty. But back in reality, her husband condescends, her sister-in-law irritates, and her estranged son barely speaks to her.

As Susan’s two worlds collide, hilarity turns to heartbreak in this gripping portrait of a woman losing her grip on both her fantasies and her reality.
