Full casting has been announced for new musical Starter for Ten, which is returning to Bristol Old Vic this autumn following a successful run last year.
Produced by Antic Productions, Bristol Old Vic, Longshot Films and Playtone, Starter for Ten will run at Bristol Old Vic from 10 September to 11 October 2025. The show will then play the Birmingham Rep Theatre from 22 October to 1 November 2025.
Already announced is actress, presenter, comedian and writer Mel Giedroyc, who will reprise her role as Brian’s mum Irene Jackson and Bamber Gascoigne’s irresistible sidekick Julia Bland in the show.
Mel will be joined by Adam Bregman (Chariots of Fire) as Brian; Miracle Chance (Heathers) as Lucy; Will Jennings (Les Misérables) as Patrick; Stephen Ashfield (The Book of Mormon) as Bamber Gascoigne / Brian’s dad Dave Jackson; Asha Parker-Wallace (Burlesque) as Rebecca; Rachel John (Hamilton) as Dr Bowman; Christian Maynard (Midnight Cowboy) as Spencer; and Imogen Craig as Alice.
The cast is completed by Michelle Bishop, Luke Johnson, Kwamé Kandekore and Laura Dawn Pyatt.
Starter for Ten is based on the coming-of-age novel by David Nicholls (One Day), which was turned into a 2006 movie starring James McAvoy, Benedict Cumberbatch, James Corden and Rebecca Hall.
The show is about love, class and growing up in the 1980s, set in Bristol against the backdrop of legendary British quiz show University Challenge.

Starter for Ten has a book and lyrics co-written by Emma Hall and Charlie Parham, Artistic Directors of Antic Productions. The 80s-inspired original score and lyrics are composed by queer, pop-punk composers Tom Rasmussen and Hatty Carman.
The production is directed by Charlie Parham.
