One Day The Musical to transfer to the West End's Garrick Theatre

The world premiere production of One Day The Musical is coming to London’s Garrick Theatre, starring Jamie Muscato and Sharon Rose.

Based on David Nicholls’ beloved 2009 novel, One Day The Musical will run at the Garrick Theatre in London from 17 November 2026 – 14 March 2027.

The production is directed by Max Webster (The Importance of Being Earnest, Life of Pi), and features an original folk-pop score by Johnnyswim.

One Day recently premiered at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh, starring West End favourites Jamie Muscato (Cabaret, The Great Gatsby) as Dexter and Sharon Rose (Sylvia, Hamilton) as Emma.

Muscato and Rose will reprise their roles in the transfer to London’s West End, with further casting yet to be announced.

David Nicholls’ novel has been adapted for the stage by David Greig (The Baddies, Local Hero, The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart), and features songs by Abner and Amanda Ramirez of Johnnyswim, with additional lyrics by Freya Catrin Smith (Ride A New Musical).

Nicholls’ novel was also turned into a film starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess, and a recent Netflix series starring Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall.

The Edinburgh cast also included Josefina Gabrielle (Chicago, Les Misérables) as Alison Mayhew, David Birrell (1984, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe) as Stephen Mayhew, Miracle Chance (The Witches, Heathers) as Tilly, and Dan Buckley (Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical) as Ian.

Joining Max Webster in the creative team of the show are choreographer Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, set and costume designer Rae Smith, lighting designer Bruno Poet, sound designer Simon Baker, and music supervisor and arranger Nigel Lilley.

In the show, Emma and Dexter first meet on the night of their graduation from Edinburgh University, 15th July 1988 – St. Swithin’s Day. Over the next twenty years we return to them on the same day each year, and through joy and heartbreak, missed opportunities and second chances, they navigate love, ambition, and the unpredictable twists of life.
