New musical Starter for Ten is heading back to the Bristol Old Vic this autumn following a successful run last year.
Produced by Antic Productions, Bristol Old Vic, Longshot Films and Playtone, Starter for Ten will run at Bristol Old Vic from 10 September to 11 October 2025.
The show will then play the Birmingham Rep Theatre from 22 October to 1 November 2025.
There’s no further news about a West End run for the musical.
Actress, presenter, comedian and writer Mel Giedroyc will reprise her role as Brian’s mum Irene Jackson and Bamber Gascoigne’s irresistible sidekick, Julia Bland in the show, with further casting to be announced.
Starter for Ten is based on the coming-of-age novel by David Nicholls (One Day), which was turned into a 2006 movie starring James McAvoy, Benedict Cumberbatch, James Corden and Rebecca Hall.
The show is about love, class and growing up in the 1980s, set in Bristol against the backdrop of legendary British quiz show University Challenge.

Starter for Ten has a book and lyrics co-written by Emma Hall and Charlie Parham, Artistic Directors of Antic Productions. The 80s-inspired original score and lyrics are composed by queer, pop-punk composers Tom Rasmussen and Hatty Carman.
The production is directed by Charlie Parham.
