Stars of stage and screen Mathew Horne (Gavin & Stacey) and Selina Cadell (Doc Martin) star in a major revival of Samuel Beckett’s macabre comedy Endgame at Theatre Royal Bath.

Samuel Beckett (Waiting for Godot, Krapp’s Last Tape) is one of the most important writers of the 20th century, and Endgame is considered one of his most significant and influential works.

This new production of Endgame is directed by award-winner Lindsay Posner, whose recent productions include Noises Off, A View From The Bridge and The Deep Blue Sea.

Endgame stars award-winning actor, director and writer Douglas Hodge (La Cage Aux Folles, The Great) as Hamm, acclaimed film and television actor Clive Francis (I’m Sorry, Prime Minister) as Nagg, Gavin and Stacey’s Matthew Horne (Death in Paradise, Bad Education) as Clov, and stage and screen star Selina Cadell (Doc Martin) as Nell.

Endgame played at the Theatre Royal Bath’s Ustinov Studio from 4 September to 4 October 2025. There’s no current news about a West End transfer for Endgame, but check back for details or sign-up for alerts.

In a bare room, Hamm, an old, blind tyrant, is locked in a stalemate with his servant Clov. Interrupted by the nostalgic musings of Hamm’s ancient, dustbin-dwelling parents, Hamm and Clov do their best ignore the older pair, and cling stubbornly to their comic routine of casual savagery and mutual dependence.
