Matilda The Musical has passed a major milestone in London’s West End, notching up its 5000th performance at the Cambridge Theatre.
The Royal Shakespeare Company’s hit adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1988 novel has been a fixture in Covent Garden since 2011. With a book by Dennis Kelly, songs by Tim Minchin and direction by Matthew Warchus, the production has become one of the West End’s most enduring successes.
Now in its 14th year, Matilda recently became the 15th longest-running production in West End history (West End’s longest-running shows); and has been seen by over 12 million people across 100 cities worldwide.

The show recently welcomed a new lineup of young performers, with Suki Hillier, Mia Rogers and Alexis Whitehead joining Angelica Scott as the latest Matildas. The adult cast includes Tiffany Graves as Mrs Wormwood, Kieran Hill as Miss Trunchbull, Neil McDermott as Mr Wormwood and Eve Norris as Miss Honey.

The beloved show features design by Rob Howell, choreography by Peter Darling, orchestrations, additional music and musical supervision by Christopher Nightingale, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Simon Baker and special effects and illusions by Paul Kieve.
Booking and Touring News
The RSC’s Olivier and Tony Award-winning musical is currently booking at the Cambridge Theatre until May 2026. A new UK and Ireland tour will begin in Leicester in October 2025, with two additional venues recently announced.
RSC in the West End
In addition to Matilda, the RSC has a strong West End presence this season. Its new drama Kyoto is now playing at @sohoplace, while the acclaimed production of My Neighbour Totoro is atthe Gillian Lynne Theatre. The company will also present the UK premiere of Born With Teeth starring Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who, Sex Education) and Edward Bluemel (Killing Eve, My Lady Jane) — a razor-sharp, darkly comic new play exploring the relationship between Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare.
