Jane Horrocks and Ayub Khan-Din star in a new revival of East is East at the Trafalgar Studios

Part of Jamie Lloyd’s second Trafalgar Transformed season at the Trafalgar Studios, East is East is a modern comedy classic about growing up in multiracial England in the 1970’s.

A hugely successful British movie starring Om Puri and Linda Bassett, East is East is written by Ayub Khan-Din, who stars as George alongside multi award-winning stage and screen star Jane Horrocks (Annie Get Your Gun, Sunshine on Leith, Absolutely Fabulous) as Ella – a mixed race married couple bringing up their kids in 70’s Salford.

East is East is directed by Sam Yates and runs until 3 January 2015 at the Trafalgar Studios.

THE STORY

Pakistani chip-shop owner George Khan is determined to give his kids a strict Muslim upbringing against the unforgiving backdrop of 1970’s Salford. Household tension reaches breaking point as their long-suffering English mother, Ella, gets caught in the cross fire – her loyalties divided between her marriage and the free will of her children.

Jane Horrocks stars as Ella Khan in East is East, alongside Ayub Khan Din as George Khan, Amit Shah as Abdul, Ashley Kumar as Tariq, Darren Kuppan as Maneer, Nathan Clarke as Saleem, Taj Atwal as Meenah and Michael Karim as Sajit.

Further cast include Sally Bankes as Auntie Annie, Rani Moorthy as Mrs. Shah and Hassani Shapi as Mr Shah/Doctor, plus Ash Rizi, Karl Seth, Deepal Parmar and Pamela Bennett.

Full casting announced for East is East at the Trafalgar Studios starring Jane Horrocks Further casting has been released for the forthcoming production of East is East at the Trafalgar Studios, part of Jamie Lloyd's second Trafalgar Transformed season. Amit Shah will play Abdul Khan, Ashley Kumar will play Tariq Khan, Darren Kuppan will play Maneer Khan, Nathan Clarke will play Saleem Khan, Taj Atwal will play Meenah Khan and Michael Karim will play Sajit Khan in the comedy. They join the previously announced stars of the comedy - Jane Horrocks as Ella Khan and Ayub Khan Din - who also wrote East is East - as George Khan.
