The Crucible at the Old Vic starring Richard Armitage

Sorry, this show is not currently booking.

The Old Vic presents Arthur Miller’s modern classic The Crucible starring Richard Armitage.

Award-winning director Yael Farber brings her new production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible to the Old Vic this summer.

Starring acclaimed TV and movie star Richard Armitage (Captain America: The First Avenger, North and South, Spooks, Robin Hood), Anna Madeley and Samantha Colley, the play has enjoyed rave, 5-star reviews from the press.

This highly visceral re-imagining of Arthur Miller’s American masterpiece is presented in-the-round at the Old Vic and is an extraordinary theatrical event.

THE CAST

Stars Richard Armitage as John Proctor, Anna Madeley as Elizabeth Proctor and Samantha Colley as Abigail Williams in the drama. The cast also includes Sarah Niles, Rebecca Saire and Zara White.

THE STORY

Compelling drama about the Salem witch trials, which draws fascinating parallels with McCarthy’s anticommunist investigations in the 1950’s. In the play, one man fights to save his identity in a repressive Puritan community in America, where intolerance collides with lust and superstition, fuelling widespread hysteria with tragic results.

  1. We came to see it on the first night Sat. June 21st, sat 4 rows back from the front. Was mesmerised from start to finish, the most galvanising acting, superb production, excellent performances, so exciting, dramatic, can’t praise it enough! Congratulations to everyone. Captured the mood, and Richard is a superb actor, he makes you feel his frustration, pain anger and sorrow, but also tender with Mary Warren. We’re lucky enough to have a second visit in August bringing son and grand daughter too. It’s the best production I’ve ever seen on stage. There was only one scene which seemed to drag a little and almost seemed unnecessary and that was the second last scene with Goody Good and Tituba and the Marshall (Prison warden.) just a personal observation. Loved the fight scene between Proctor and Abigail.. most of the audience wished they were Abigail! Flew over from S.W. Ireland to see this (Hubby’s b’day present) and thanks a million to Richard for having the patience and kindness to come out and sign autographs and have photo’s taken with his ‘well-wishers’ it certainly was the icing on a very beautiful birthday cake!THANKYOU EVERYONE. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!

  2. Deejay Driscoll

Yael Farber is not a he. SHE is bringing her new production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible to the Old Vic this summer. Way to not do your research for the article. *smh*

    1. Hey Deejay thank you so much for pointing this out – very silly mistake indeed. It has now been corrected. Thanks again for taking the time to write to us. Cheers, Paul (Editor, WestEndTheatre.com)
