Hollywood heartthrob Richard Armitage is to star in the Old Vic Theatre’s new production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.
The play starts previews on 24 June 2014 at the Old Vic, directed by South African writer and director Yael Farber (Mies Julie).
The Crucible also stars hot new actress Samantha Colley as Abigail Williams who has just graduated from Oxford School of Drama and will be making her professional debut in the role.
Richard Armitage currently appears in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit movies, with other credits including Robin Hood and Spooks.
Currently playing at the Old Vic is Lindsay Posner’s terrific production of Jon Robin Baitz’s Broadway play Other Desert Cities starring Sinéad Cusack, Clare Higgins and Martha Plimpton.
Alongside The Crucible (24 June to 13 September), the Old Vic’s forthcoming new season also includes Kevin Spacey in Clarence Darrow (28 May to 15 June), and Kristin Scott Thomas in Electra (20 September to 20 December).
