We didn’t think they could replace Heather Headley in The Bodyguard let alone Beverley Knight! But producer David Ian has pulled it out of the bag again with the announcement that Alexandra Burke is to take over in the hit show.

Joining the cast from 2 June to 30 August 2014, Burke will take the lead as superstar Rachel Marron, alongside Tristan Gemmill as Rachel’s bodyguard, Frank Farmer.

The Bodyguard will continue to play at the Adelphi Theatre until 30 August 2014. Made in Dagenham The Musical starts at the theatre from 9 October 2014.

Beverley Knight will continue in the role of Rachel Marron until 31 May 2014 before heading over to the Shaftesbury Theatre to star in Memphis The Musical, also from 9 October 2014.

In a press statement, Alexandra Burke said: “I couldn’t be more excited about joining the cast of The Bodyguard and to play the iconic role of Rachel Marron will be adream come true. I am a massive Whitney Houston fan so to be given the opportunity to play a role made famous by her every night will be a real privilege. I start rehearsals very soon with my fellow cast mates and the brilliant creative team and, with a little trepidation, I am looking forward to our first performance in June.”

Alexandra Burke rose to fame after winning series 5 of The X Factor. Nominated three times for a Brit award, she has released three studio albums, embarked on a solo tour and supported Beyoncé on her I Am… Tour.
