Producer and director Michael Harrison has announced Robin Hood as the panto to play the London Palladium this Christmas 2024.

Now in its ninth year of pantos at the London Palladium, Robin Hood will play the Palladium from 7 December 2024 to 12 January 2025.

Palladium panto regular, comedian and writer Julian Clary, has been cast in the title role of Robin Hood this year, and will be joined by much-loved singer and presenter Jane McDonald (Cruising with Jane McDonald) as Maid Marion.

Three major West End stars have also signed up for the panto this year: Olivier Award nominee Marisha Wallace (Celebrity Big Brother, Guys & Dolls, Dreamgirls) joining the panto troupe as the Sheriff of Nottingham; Olivier Award nominee Charlie Stemp (Crazy for You, Kiss Me, Kate) as Alan-A-Dale; and Tosh Wanoghu-Maud (Disney’s The Lion King, The Drifters Girl) as Little John.

Directed by Michael Harrison, the fabulous costumes will be designed once again by Hugh Durrant, in consultation with Julian Clary. Other creatives include set designs by Mark Walters, choreography by Karen Bruce, visual special effects by The Twins FX, lighting designs by Ben Cracknell, sound designs by Matt Peploe for Gareth Owen Sound and composition and orchestrations by Gary Hind.

Last year’s panto was Peter Pan starring Jennifer Saunders and Juian Clary, which sold out its entire run, playing to over 123,000 people. The show also scored great reviews from the critics.

Jane McDonald said in a statement: “I am thrilled to be making my debut in the iconic London Palladium panto, one of the highlights of the theatrical year. Julian and I are already falling in love off-stage, and we can’t wait to bring this to Maid Marion and Robin Hood come Christmas!”

Michael Harrison, Producer and Director of all nine London Palladium pantomimes said: “One of the highlights of my year is bringing together our magnificent London Palladium panto cast and preparing to stage our much-loved Christmas spectacular at London’s home of variety. I’m absolutely thrilled that Robin and Marion, two of the greatest lovers in history will be played by the wonderful Jane McDonald and Palladium royalty Julian Clary. This is a love story like no other bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘Robin Hood’s Camp’. Alongside announcing today’s cast, planning is well underway to create the spectacle on stage that we know our Palladium Panto audiences have come to expect, including some of the most jaw-dropping special effects ever seen in the West End, giving the Palladium Pantomime a totally new dimension.”

The news was first revealed by Baz in Deadline.

Harrison is also producing Hello, Dolly! at the Palladium this summer starring Imelda Staunton; and is bringing his production of The Wizard of Oz back to London, at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, also this summer. He is also a producer on Jamie Lloyd’s Sunset Boulevard, which transfers to the St. James Theatre in New York this autumn; and the Luke Sheppard revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express, coming to the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre from 8 June.

Robin Hood is playing the London Palladium from 7 December 2024 to 12 January 2024.
