Jamie Lloyd announces fully independent production company The Jamie Lloyd Company
Acclaimed West End and Broadway directer Jamie Lloyd has announced that his The Jamie Lloyd Company is now a fully independent production company, parting ways with Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) following a successful 10-year partnership between the award-winning director and the international theatre owner and producer.
A statement to the press said “The Jamie Lloyd Company will continue to create adventurous productions with the very best acting talent in the world.”
Jamie Lloyd said today, “It has long been the intention for The Jamie Lloyd Company to become an independent production company and I am delighted to be beginning this new era with some very exciting new projects that will be announced soon. Our partnership with ATG has been truly special and I am very grateful for their remarkable support over the last decade. I am looking forward to continuing our relationship with Adam Speers and everyone at ATG Productions when we collaborate on projects in the future. The company will work on a slate of current commissions and new projects created with some of the incredible collaborators I’ve worked alongside throughout my career — and, indeed, those artists I’ve yet to have the chance to work with.”
Jamie Lloyd’s recent hit London revivals are soon to transfer to the US, with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard starring Nicole Scherzinger, which caused a sensation in London and wowed the critics, soon to transfer to Broadway produced by ATG; and Lucy Prebble’s The Effect, which ran at the National Theatre, transferring to The Shed in New York starring Paapa Essiedu and Taylor Russell.
The Jamie Lloyd Company’s work includes radical reappraisals of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, Chekhov’sThe Seagull, Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac, Harold Pinter’s Betrayal and The Homecoming, Jean Genet’s The Maids, Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus and Shakespeare’s Macbeth, with casts including Uzo Aduba, Zawe Ashton, Hayley Atwell, Gemma Chan, Jessica Chastain, Emilia Clarke, Paapa Essiedu, Claire Foy, Martin Freeman, Kit Harington, Tom Hiddleston, James McAvoy, Arian Moayed, Simon Russell Beale, Taylor Russell and Nicole Scherzinger.
ATG is a giant West End, UK and US theatre owner, led by Ted Stimpson, who was parachuted into ATG last year as the new CEO. ATG runs the sizeable production outfit, ATG productions, led by Adam Speers (Sunset Boulevard, Cabaret, A Streetcar Named Desire).
Last year ATG took over the five Broadway theatres owned by Jujamcyn theatre deal completes, bringing their portfolio of venues in the UK, US and Germany to 64.
