Some Shrek-tastic new photos and a brand new trailer have been released for the UK and Ireland tour of Shrek The Musical. Shrek-tastic images have been released of the principal cast in the upcoming Shrek The Musical UK and Ireland Tour. Lead casting for the UK & Ireland Tour of Shrek the Musical has bee announced. Shrek The Musical set for major UK & Ireland tour in 2023
A brand-new production of the award-winning Broadway and West End hit show Shrek the Musical will tour the UK and Ireland from July 2023, it has been announced. The bright and beautiful fairy-tale world of Shrek will be reimagined by a new creative team for this major tour. Sam Holmes (Club Tropicana the Musical) , who played Lord Farquaad in the previous UK tour, returns to the swamp to co-direct. He is joined by acclaimed director and choreographer Nick Winston, whose recent credits include Bonnie and Clyde (Arts Theatre) and Beauty and the Beast (as associate director and choreographer for the UK tour) and upcoming projects include a new world tour of We Will Rock You and a remounted UK tour of Rock of Ages.  Set and costume design will be by Philip Witcomb whose previous productions include Bonnie & Clyde In Concert (Theatre Royal Drury Lane), Jack & The Beanstalk (Everyman Theatre Cheltenham), Atlantis (Tivoli Concert Hall, Copenhagen), Mame (Hope Mill Theatre and UK Tour), The Beauty Queen of Leenane and Stones In His Pockets (The Minack Theatre). Casting announced for UK tour of Shrek The Musical
Initial casting has been announced for the forthcoming UK tour of Shrek The Musical. Leading the cast as beloved swamp-dwelling ogre ‘Shrek’ will be Steffan Harri, having previously starred in the original UK tour of SHREK THE MUSICAL®, and Call the Midwife star Laura Main as ‘Princess Fiona’. Laura Main (Princess Fiona) says: ‘I’ve been waiting a long time for an adventure like this to come along and now that it has I am ready to swap the surgery for the swamp in one of my favourite musicals. Shrek has made a Believer out of me and I can’t wait for this fairytale to take me across the country.’ Marcus Ayton whose credits include The Rat Pack Live and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (UK Tour) will play Shrek’s wisecracking sidekick ‘Donkey’, with Samuel Holmes (Mrs Henderson Presents, Spamalot, Crazy for You) playing pint-sized villain ‘Lord Farquaad’. The company of fairy-tale characters will include Adam Baker, Ethan Bradshaw, Michael Carolan, Joseph Dockree, Will Hawksworth, Sarah-Louise Jones, Reece Kerridge, Thomas Lee Kidd, Amy Oxley, Jemma Revell, Lucinda Shaw, Sam Stones, Adam Taylor, Jennifer Tierney, Sophie Wallis, Francesca Williams, Laura Wilson and Kevin Yates. Shrek The Musical to close at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London
Charlie and The Chocolate Factory to replace Shrek at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The producers of Shrek The Musical have announced that the show is to close at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London on 24 February 2013. The show opened at Drury Lane on 14 June 2011. Shrek The Musical to close at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane Based on the hit movie franchise, the London production was deemed to be the best production so far following a short and costly Broadway run in 2009. The show is expected to go on a UK tour in 2014. Shrek producer Bill Damaschke, who is Chief Creative Officer for DreamWorks Animation, said that, "it is not without sadness that we have decided to leave next year". DreamWorks plans to bring its productions of Madagascar Live!, and How To Train Your Dragon to the UK in 2013. Sam Mendes and Caro Newling of Neal Street Productions, who manage the production in the UK, will now produce Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the venue next year, directed by Mendes. They have been searching for a large-enough home for the musical for a number of months, with the Theatre Royal Drury Lane always top of the list. SHREK THE MUSICAL ANNOUNCES THAT KIMBERLEY WALSH WILL PLAY THE ROLE OF PRINCESS FIONA FROM OCTOBER 5 2011 Kimberley Walsh will play the role of Princess Fiona in Shrek The Musical from 5 October 2011. Amanda Holden's pregnancy, announced today, means that she performs as Princess Fiona for the final time on Monday 3 October. Kimberley Walsh takes over the role two months earlier than originally planned. Kimberley Walsh is a member of Girls Aloud one of the UK's most successful pop groups. Alongside Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding she has sold 10 million records, released five platinum selling albums, won a Brit award and played sold-out arena tours. Kimberley's love of musical theatre was explored in the ITV2 documentary The Passions of Girls Aloud which culminated in her appearance at the Queens Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue singing On My Own, in the role of Eponine, in Les Miserables. This was the realisation of a life-long dream, having played the role of Young Cosette in a production of Les Miserables when she was twelve years old. On Friday July 15 at 8pm, Friday Night is Music Night – A Musical Shrektacular will be broadcast on BBC Radio 2. Recorded at the Hackney Empire, the concert celebrates the 10 year anniversary of the film release of Shrek and the West End opening of SHREK THE MUSICAL® . Nigel Lindsay, Richard Blackwood, Nigel Harman and Amanda Holden will present the two hour programme and alongside the ensemble cast, perform songs from the new stage musical accompanied by the 70-piece strong BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Richard Balcombe. Songs performed from other DreamWorks Animation movies include How to Train your Dragon, Chicken Run, The Prince of Egypt and Kung Fu Panda. On Saturday July 30, SHREK THE MUSICAL® will stage an exclusive performance at Camp Bestival. Voted the UK's Best Family Festival for three years in a row, Camp Bestival is set in the majestic Lulworth Castle in Dorset. During August 12 – 26, SHREK THE MUSICAL® will participate in Kids Week in the West End, an action-packed fortnight of theatrical fun. During Kids Week, a child up to the age of 16 years old can experience SHREK THE MUSICAL® for free, and two additional children can go along at half price (per transaction) if they are accompanied by a full paying adult (subject to availability).
