Smash-hit Broadway and West End show Shrek The Musical is to get a brand new UK tour. The show will be co-directed by Nick Winston and Samuel Holmes, with choreography by Nick Winston, and design by Philip Witcomb. Nick is also director of the new West End production of Bonnie & Clyde The Musical at the Arts Theatre, which is now in previews. It is believed that producer Mark Goucher is running the tour, for rights owners DreamWorks Theatricals. Mark Goucher is currently producing new show Great British Bake Off The Musical, plus tours of Hairspray and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Shrek The Musical was first staged in the UK in 2011 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and the subsequent UK tour ran from Christmas 2017 to January 2019 directed by Nigel Harman, who starred as Lord Farquaad in the West End show. Based on the much-loved and Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animations movie, the West End production was directed by Jason Moore and Rob Ashford. Initial casting has been announced for the forthcoming UK tour of Shrek The Musical. Leading the cast as beloved swamp-dwelling ogre ‘Shrek’ will be Steffan Harri, having previously starred in the original UK tour of SHREK THE MUSICAL®, and Call the Midwife star Laura Main as ‘Princess Fiona’. Shrek The Musical has announced further dates for the 2017/18 UK tour. Producers have today announced further venues for the 2017/18 tour of SHREK THE MUSICAL®, with new dates in Sheffield, Cardiff, Woking, Liverpool, Canterbury, Milton Keynes, Bristol, Llandudno and Leeds. As previously announced, the larger-than-life production opens at the Edinburgh Playhouse for the Christmas 2017/18 season from 12 December 2017 to 7 January 2018 and will also tour to Manchester, Sunderland, Birmingham, Aberdeen, Northampton, Stoke and Blackpool, Nigel Harman will return as director, having made his directorial debut on SHREK THE MUSICAL’s first UK and Ireland Tour. Harmen is best know for his television work including playing heart-throb Dennis Rickman in EastEnders and the villainous valet Mr Green in Downton Abbey. Charlie and The Chocolate Factory to replace Shrek at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The producers of Shrek The Musical have announced that the show is to close at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London on 24 February 2013. The show opened at Drury Lane on 14 June 2011. Shrek The Musical to close at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane Based on the hit movie franchise, the London production was deemed to be the best production so far following a short and costly Broadway run in 2009. The show is expected to go on a UK tour in 2014. Shrek producer Bill Damaschke, who is Chief Creative Officer for DreamWorks Animation, said that, "it is not without sadness that we have decided to leave next year". DreamWorks plans to bring its productions of Madagascar Live!, and How To Train Your Dragon to the UK in 2013. Sam Mendes and Caro Newling of Neal Street Productions, who manage the production in the UK, will now produce Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the venue next year, directed by Mendes. They have been searching for a large-enough home for the musical for a number of months, with the Theatre Royal Drury Lane always top of the list. On Saturday July 30, SHREK THE MUSICAL® will stage an exclusive performance at Camp Bestival. Voted the UK's Best Family Festival for three years in a row, Camp Bestival is set in the majestic Lulworth Castle in Dorset. During August 12 – 26, SHREK THE MUSICAL® will participate in Kids Week in the West End, an action-packed fortnight of theatrical fun. During Kids Week, a child up to the age of 16 years old can experience SHREK THE MUSICAL® for free, and two additional children can go along at half price (per transaction) if they are accompanied by a full paying adult (subject to availability). On Thursday August 18, 2011, kids can participate in a free dance workshop with a member of the SHREK THE MUSICAL® cast at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, booking is required.
