Beetlejuice The Musical

Beetlejuice to play Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in 2025

Michael Cassel Group (& Juliet, Mary Poppins) and Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures have announced that hit Broadway musical Beetlejuice is coming to Melbourne Australia.

The show will play a limited season in Melbourne at the Regent Theatre from April 2025.

The eight-time Tony Award-nominated musical has a score by Australian composer Eddie Perfect, and is based on Tim Burton’s much-loved movie.

The show also has a book by Scott Brown and Emmy Award nominee Anthony King (Broad City), and orchestrations and incidental music by Kris Kukul.

Beetlejuice tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” Lucky for Lydia, her new house is haunted by a recently deceased couple and a degenerate demon with a thing for stripes. When Lydia calls on this ghost-with-the-most to scare away her insufferable parents, Beetlejuice comes up with the perfect plan, that leads audiences into a (nether)world of pandemonium.

Beetlejuice closed on Broadway in January this year, having played 679 performances, directed by Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge! The Musical).

The show has also been long rumoured to be coming to London’s West End, but there’s still no news on dates or venue. Hopefully the announcement of an Australian run for the show means London is closer than ever.

Michael Cassel, the Australian producer of the show, said in a press statement: “This wickedly funny show is at the top of so many Aussie music theatre fans’ wish list to play here and we are delighted to bring it to its natural home – the Regent Theatre – where audiences will be transported to the netherworld for a night they will never forget. The fan support for Beetlejuice resonated around the world and we can’t wait to see how fans respond to it here.”
