Dame Harriet Walter DBE is a British actress known for extensive work on stage, film and TV. She most recently appeared in HBO drama Succession and comedy series Ted Lasso, where she was nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Guest Actress in both drama & comedy.
Harriet Walter returns to the National Theatre to play formidable matriarch, Bernarda Alba in a new production of The House of Bernarda Alba, directed by Rebecca Frecknall.
Harriet won an Olivier Award for her performance in the 1988 revival of Twelfth Night & Three Sisters and has received two further Olivier Award nominations for her performance in Mary Stuart and Life x 3. She appeared in many RSC productions in the late 70’s and 80’s, cementing her status as a consummate stage actress; in later years she has appeared in RSC productions of Antony & Cleopatra and Death of A Salesman. Other notable theatre productions include: Brutus in Julius Caesar in 2012, and the title role in Henry IV in 2014, in all-female productions at the Donmar Warehouse; Mary Stuart, also at the Donmar and on Broadway; and, Women Beware Women at the National.
