Theatre Royal Bath has announced further casting details for its highly anticipated Ralph Fiennes season, which runs from June to October 2025. The season features three major productions, including the world premiere of Grace Pervades by David Hare, a new staging of Shakespeare’s As You Like It directed by Fiennes, and Small Hotel, a new play by Rebecca Lenkiewicz.
Grace Pervades – A David Hare World Premiere
Opening the season, Grace Pervades will run from 27 June to 19 July 2025. Written by acclaimed playwright David Hare and directed by Jeremy Herrin, the production will star previously announced Ralph Fiennes as legendary Victorian actor Henry Irving alongside Miranda Raison (Spooks, Anne Boleyn). The play explores the lives of Irving and fellow theatre icon Ellen Terry, as well as her children, Edith Craig and Edward Gordon Craig, who left their own lasting legacy on British theatre.
The cast will also feature Sharif Afifi, Tom Kanji, Harriet Leitch, Ashley McGuire, Jordan Metcalfe, Jo Mousley, Damian Myerscough, Guy Paul, Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, Saskia Strallen, and Kathryn Wilder.
The creative team includes set designer Bob Crowley, costume designer Fotini Dimou, lighting designer Peter Mumford, sound designer Elizabeth Purnell, composer Paul Englishby, casting director Jessica Ronane CDG, associate director Joe Lichtenstein, and movement director Lucy Cullingford.
As You Like It – Shakespeare’s Classic Reimagined
Running from 15 August to 6 September 2025, As You Like It will be directed by Ralph Fiennes. The production will star Olivier Award winner Dame Harriet Walter as Jaques and rising star Gloria Obianyo (Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, Dune) as Rosalind, with further casting to be announced.
A timeless tale of love and mistaken identity, the play follows Rosalind and Orlando as they navigate family feuds and self-discovery in the Forest of Arden. The production will feature set design by Bob Crowley, costume design by Fotini Dimou, lighting by Peter Mumford, video design by Roland Horvath, sound design by Christopher Shutt, and music by Ilan Eshkeri. The movement director is Fin Walker, with casting led by Ginny Schiller CDG and assistant director George Jibson.
Small Hotel – A New Drama by Rebecca Lenkiewicz
Closing the season, Small Hotel will run from 3 to 18 October 2025. Written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz and directed by Holly Race Roughan, the play stars Ralph Fiennes as Larry, a renowned TV presenter whose life begins to unravel. As he confronts his past and future, the story introduces a range of compelling characters, including his twin brother Richard, his former lover Marianne, and his domineering mother Athena. Further casting will be announced.
Lenkiewicz, best known for Her Naked Skin and the Oscar-winning screenplay for Ida, brings her signature sharp storytelling to this powerful drama. The creative team includes set designer Bob Crowley, sound designer Max Pappenheim, video designer Luke Halls, costume designer Loren Elstein, movement director Sarah Fahie, casting director Amy Ball CDG, and associate director Emily Ling Williams.
Theatre Royal Bath’s Ralph Fiennes season promises to be a landmark theatrical event, blending new writing, Shakespeare, and world-class performances.
