Medea reveals full casting alongside Sophie Okonedo & Ben Daniels

Producers of the forthcoming revival of Medea starring Sophie Okonedo have revealed full casting for the show.

Joining stage and screen star Sophie Okonedo (Death on the Nile) as Medea and Ben Daniels (The Normal Heart) as Jason/Creon/Aegeus will be Marion Bailey, Penny Layden, Jo McInnes and Amy Trigg.

Directed by Dominic Cooke (Follies), the adaptation of Euripides’ classic play is by Robinson Jeffers, and runs at @sohoplace theatre in London from 11 February to 22 April 2023.

Dominic Cooke, Sophie Okonedo and Ben Daniels have all worked with each other before, including the recent BBC series The Hollow Crown – Wars of the Roses.

Marion Bailey will play Nurse in Medea, with Penny Layden as 3rd Woman of Corinth, Jo McInnes as 1st Woman of Corinth and Amy Trigg as 2nd Woman of Corinth. Understudies for the show are Alicia Charles, Leda Hodgson and Tom Peters.

The creative team for the show includes Design by Vicki Mortimer, Lighting by Neil Austin, Sound by Gareth Fry, Casting by Amy Ball, Children’s Casting by Amy Ball and Verity Naughton, Movement Director Lucy Cullingford, Associate Director Tanuja Amarasuriya, Production Manager Igor, Costume Supervisor Helen Johnson, Wigs Designer Sam Cox, Props Supervisor Mary Halliday and Vocal/Dialect Coach Jeannette Nelson.

Currently playing @sohoplace is As You Like It directed by Josie Rourke and starring starring Rose Ayling-Ellis, Leah Harvey, Alfred Enoch and Martha Plimpton.
